Looked in one of the tanks today and saw that the male and female Kribs have had a successful spawn.
They are busy gaurding their gaggle of newborns.

Congrats!!! I've always liked the Kribs. I think it's the coolest thing to watch how they keep after their fry.

You know that you have to post pics though, right?

hahaha...I guess that you have a point there. I guess you can wait a week or so until they grow a little more!

Well, this is the best I could do for now. On the left is Mama Krib and you can barely see three little fry on the right of the picture. There's to much ambient light so maybe tonight the pics will be better but then again, Mom and Dad usually herd the fry out of sight if I stare at them to long

That is not a very good picture. Maybe get it from the side of the tank. Sorry if i sound rude. You can not even till that there are fish in there.
Thanks!
Will look back for more pics.

Kids....They say the darndest things!

Actually Dean as you pointed out, this isn't one of troyjame's best pics (and he has many very beautiful pics ),but to the trained eye,not only can I see mama Krib, I see one of the babies pretty good, and the bodies of the other two.

Krib parents are first class. Soon as I'd get the camera they'd move the fry out of sight. So out of frustration I took pictures of plants and wood instead!
This is a grape wood stump I've added to the planted tank. I put some of the Anubias on it. Lots of tannins being leached but I like it. Doesn't look quite so yellow seeing it in person.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v123/sev...sh/HPIM0779.jpgThis is the tank it's in, which at one point was stricktly Amazonian but now with the addition of Anubias and grapewood........so be it!

Wow! Your plants really look awesome! I love the whole look of that tree stump along with the Anubias-which happen to be one of my favorite plant familys.

I was just in watching the fry so figured I'd type in an update for anyone who cares. The fry are about an 1/8 of an inch now and I've only been able to count 8 of them. Mama usually takes the job of hovering directly over them while Pa is usually chasing off potential fry eaters. They do change up every now and then though with Ma chasing and Pa hovering. The fry, a striped pattern of light and dark brown, each have a small white speck at the top front of their dorsal fins. I'm assuming that this is so the parents can see where they are at better. They seem to spend most of the day travelling about as a pack pecking at the substrate, rocks, and wood. So far they haven't ventured more than 8" from where they were hatched. That's it.

Hmm, good question and I'm not sure really. Don't know what family they are in but genus/species is Pevichromis pulcher. They are an African fish, pretty mild tempered, and just downright beautiful. I'll try and get some better pics.
Who can resist baby fish TouchofSky? All stomach and eyes.

In reading tonight, I'm in the idea phase of setting up a Malawi tank with Copadichromis azureus, Aulonocara sp. "stuartgranti Maleri", and Otopharynx lithobates "Zimbabwe" but this is way off the point, Kribs are an African cichlid so that explains their cichlid like behavior and form.

is azureus a type of frog? i dont know i just making a guess.
troyjames
Apr 28 2005, 02:34 PM
No
It's a type of cichlid. There are some cichlids, especially the Africans, that rival saltwater fish for color and beauty, IMO. The rams I have (not the snail rams but the Apistogramma Rams) are drop dead stunning.

You have a lot of snails in your tank, but it is okay becuase i have like 6-8 in a ten gallon, so don't feel bad becuase i acidently over popualted my tank with snails!
Thanks!

Here's an updated picture of the krib fry. They are getting good size and although the parents are still very protective, they are finding it harder to keep all the young ones together.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v123/sev...sh/HPIM0800.jpgWhat got me in the picture taking mood is that after coming home from work, first thing I do is feed the fish and have a good look to check up on everybody and the tanks in general. Well, I didn't see my Rams at first and had to search for them when they are usually right front and center waiting to be fed. This is what I saw....
