First off happy to say all fish survived! banana.gif

Well my pond is SO murky and green and gross looking. the water looks REALLY cloudly and green i can only see maybe and inch depth. I heard that ponds in this spring get algea blooms but this one has been going on FOREVER! i want to be able so see my fish again! fishpond.gif

Is this bad for my fish?
how long will it last?
and is there anything i can put in the water to help clear it up?

Emo, did you check your water parameters recently? Ammonia, nitrites, nitrates, pH?
Just because the water is green, and you can't see your fish, doesn't mean the water isn't healthy. I have a totally green pond with comets in it, and I can't see my fish for the life of me. Its actually much better for them - predators can't see them (duh! laugh.gif), the green water brings out much brighter colors as well.
How many hours a day does the sun reach the pond? A pond sitting in full sun all day will get green eventually, there is no way around it. Some shading above the pond will help, but ultimately I only found the UV sterilizers to really be effective. But remember, I live in Florida, so sun wise there is a big difference to you in MI.
High nitrates or pond waste, like plant debris from trees, also can atribute to the green soup.
I would try a bigger water change and get some shading over the ponds for starters. There is also a product called "barley straw", that you can add into the pond, and it supposedly helps with the green water. I have never used that though, and I am pretty sure it will lose its effectiveness after a while....smile.gif

Barley Straw does work for the pea soup, but you have to keep using it. Andrea gave some good pointers. It sounds like you've had your pond for awhile? So I'm guessing it shouldn't be cycling? If it is cycling the best thing to do is wait and things will clear up. You may need to add more filtration? A UV light could also help.

Microbe Lift is a good product that does help keep the water clear. It is all natural and does many good things for the pond. It also has to be added once a week (I think LOL it's spring I forget).

What ever you do DO NOT use chemicals to clear your water. Doesn't matter if they say that they are fish safe, they are still chemicals. They can do damage to your bio filter. I have experience with this, was told by a 'so called expert' who sold me my filtration system to use chemicals. It was a mess.
(shade helps a LOT)
Good luck

I went with a uv sterlizer and that does the job nicely! smile.gif biggrin.gif
