I bought a bristlenose pleco on Saturday to help control some of the algea in my tank, but he's so tiny (about 1 1/2 inches) and I know they dont get very big, and hes in a 55 gallon, and is cleaning some things, but algea is growing right back too fast for him to eat any of it. he can only clean a small space before more pops up. Do you think I could get another one? Would they be ok together? Or should I wait and see if he'll clean things up alittle better. Ive had plecos before, but never in this big of a tank.

Any advice would be great! Thanks a million heartpump.gif

I would think you could get another. Maybe you will end up with a pair and they will breed if you give them plenty of caves. smile.gif

yeah.gif smile.gif I can only tell you that I have three in a 30 gal.tank, and they each have their own hide-out places & territories.Anything you will read says that it's really not a good idea, but so far, mine have worked all together. Males are supposed to get quite territorial, but I have one big male & two somewhat smaller ones,& they just don't go near anyone else. Maybe if a little female showed up,the tables will turn, but who knows..... If it were me personally,I'd get another one. biggrin.gif

Yeah, I'll third that. wink.gif I have 2 in one tank and they are fine. If they see food, the bigger one will dominate but then again, they don't fight, just a bit of a show and they seperate with no harm done. smile.gif

I have 2 in a 77, one male and one female. They have completely eradicated my tank of ANY algae within only a couple months. I have to feed them veggies and wafers now to keep them going! IMO, I'd just keep the one in the 55... as he grows, he'll get better at eating the algae...
