It is still too cool for most plants although I did put some Parrot Feather out there yesterday. That seems to handle the cold okay. The pond was starting to turn a little green from the 10+ days of sun we've had (and way above normal temps). THat will all change on thursday but the Koi are loving these warmer temps. My mom and dad will be back from Florida in a couple of weeks will all my plants.

Keep in mind that right now it is too cool for most of my plants other than the parrot feather (and Watercress if I had any).

Fishmerized: It is approx. 850 ato 900 gallons and I have 20 fish (Koi, Shubunkins, Sarasa Comets and Comets) in there right now that stayed out there all winter with a de-icer. The Oranda's and Lionheads are still in the house since it is still too cold for them.

Debi that is a fantastic pond, you could submit those pics to be published in a magazine. Does anyone live in the top parts or would they fall down the waterfall?

All your fish are beautiful and I love your plants. Don't have much luck with plants myself, it's cruelty for me to buy them because the survival rate is very low. This goes for land and aquatic plants equally.

Your koi are a nice mix of colours, luv 'em.

Thanks Annette. In the upperpond is where the fish are that spent the winter out there (it's almost 4 feet deep). They had previosly been in the lower portion. They will stay in the upper section now since they are all getting so big. I have the water fall screened off so that they can't come down it into the lower end. I plan on putting the Oranda's and Lionheads in the lower end once the water gets warmer.

I have great luck with all the plants except water lillies. The fish eat them too much so I don't have them any longer. I keep some plants in the house for the winter and the rest go to Florida until my mom and dad come back to NY for the spring/summer.

Hey Debi - my ponds have been keeping me busy too. My bigger one was starting to clear up, but it turned to pea soup on me and stinks. The tadpole have hatched and the frogs and koi keep the sludge stirred up. I am thinking about a big old water change....but I hate doing that. I battled string algae in the new smaller pond but "think" I have that under control. I am off at lunch to get some floaters, my other plants seem to be coming up well. I'll try to get some pictures soon.

Mine are pea soup green too but starting to clear up. Our temps are supposed to normal temps of 50's during the day so that will help some. I would love to get some more plants out there, but it's too cold yet. Can't wait to see pics.

Deb, your plants are lucky to get a vacation in sunny Florida every year! wink.gif

I'm lucky that my mom and dad have a pond at their house down there. Some of my plants go into the basement with the snails (I have grow lights also).
