I just did a water change and had to clean some goo off the filter sponges
and I cleaned it off with my wet tank water hands, but I didnt wet the sponges.
Will the bacteria still be alive? unsure.gif

the bacteria will grow back, thats not really too rough though. you can isolate it and let the bacteria grow back in a bucket or something if youre unsure.

You should be fine with it as your spongess were wet to begin with. You may want to try swishing it around in your old tank water next time though, squishing,& squeezing the sponge in it.You may be shocked at just how much more "Muck" you'll get out of it,and how much better your tank will look! biggrin.gif wink.gif

No Problem!!! I love making Fish-Keeping easier for people. Your fish will also love you more everytime you do those water changes/Filter cleanings! Makes everyone happy, and keeps that tank so much more cleaner. Every once in a while ,Unplug that filter, and clean the muck build-up out of there too,in old tank water of course as to not kill your bio-bugs.You'd be surprised how fastthat can build up also. Unless you completely overfeed, don't clean gravel/change water enough, you shouldn't have to do that quite as often as rinsing the sponges. I'm with touchofsky on that. I've gotten into the habit of rinsing everytime I water change. wink.gif

Thats a very good habit smile.gif I think I might be getting into it aswell smile.gif
