When I went to go buy my goldfish a guy said that this type of algae sucker could survive in cold water. I forget what it was called but I’m sure it had lion in it. Well it was like 4 centimeters and it seemed not to move a lot. My tank didn't have a lot of algae so I bought some tabs. He never seemed to eat them. Well yesterday he wasn't moving so I put him in a glass with 4 tabs to get him to eat them. He wouldn't even go near them. He died this morning (well when I woke up he was dead) I wasn't that disappointed cause he was so small and I barley saw him. I'm wondering why he wouldn’t eat the tabs. If you got a link to a site with a list of algae eaters I can tell you what kind he is. I'm going to wait so that my tank builds up some algae until I by another one. I got a piece of driftwood in the tank cause I know that algae eaters like it. I'm sure he died because of hunger but its stomach look like it was full or pregnant. I can't give you any photos cause it’s just too small.
Any feedback will be great.

You are right, troyjames, it is an otocinclus. Otos are notorious for dying within the first month of purchase. If they survive their first month, they are generally pretty hardy little things. They are wild caught, and the whole process of catching them, shipping them, etc. is very stressful to them.
Their preferred food algae, although they will take other prepared food, such as the algae wafers you offered yours. It is a good idea to have some algae in the tank when you introduce them, so it is not a good idea to put them into a newly set up or a freshy scrubbed tank.
They generally like to be kept in a small group. I would recommend three or more.
I should also mention that otos are not the best choice for a goldfish tank, since goldfish often try and eat them. They have barbs and get stuck in the goldfish's mouth, and it is very nasty to try and remove them.

Yah the guy at the pet store said they were fine. I know not to listen to them but i didn't know what kind of algae goes in cold water. They didn't try to eat him at all. He was fine for the first 1 week. He just woudln't eat the wafers.
What kind of algae sucker will be good for my tank?
