Well I got a new betta on tuesday and he ate a grub when i first bought him, but now when I feed him, he won't eat the grubs. I don't have any other food with me and won't have time to get any new food until monday. Would that be too late? He seems fine but it's been a while since he's eaten. Does he not like them? Or maybe, are the grubs too big for him? Will he live in time? And also, my filter doesnt go well with my betta but I need to somehow keep the tank clean..how can I do that without a filter? Thanks! smile.gif

Hi Linkin,
your betta can make it through until Monday without food if need be but if you have chicken heart or liver you can slice off little chunks and feed him with that. Just make sure to remove any uneaten pieces as it will foul the water quickly. Also mosquitoes work great as food if you can find any out this time of year.

For filtering a betta tank, a sponge filter works well as it doesn't create much of a current but does biologically filter the water and keeps the heater warmed water mixed through out the tank. If you chose to do with out a filter than frequent small water changes will be required. You'll have to test the water daily for awhile to see how often/ how much water changes you need to do. The larger the tank the better. If you can add plants then so much the better as they will help.

Cheers. smile.gif

Your betta will make it through until Monday without food. It would be better if he would eat, though. I had one betta refuse to eat for two weeks when I first got him. I was frantic, but he survived and eventually started to eat. I tempted him with the gel food that I make for my goldfish and that got him eating.

I have found bettas to be quite picky with food, and sometimes you have to try different brands to get something that they like. Most bettas do like frozen bloodworms. I have found mine all like HBH Betta Bites. The HBH Betta Bites are very tiny and don't seem to cause bloating problems like some of the other larger pellets.

Is your filter a hob type of power filter? If so, you can cut the current by hanging a piece of filter floss material in front of the outflow of the filter. I do this in all of my betta tanks.

Well it's been 3 weeks and a day now and I got pellets that the pet store i got him from fed them so i figured he would know the food. Well, he still hasn't eaten anything..at all. He's still crazy and all but he just leaves his food to be. I don't want to spend anymore money buying different betta food if he's just not going to eat. grr

You could try a tiny bit of raw fish or shrimp.

Also, you could try a gel food.

I have had one go two weeks, but I tempted him with a bit of gel food and he ate that, and once he ate that, he started eating his betta pellets smile.gif

lol well I'm not really sure where I can get this stuff...I only really want to use what I have around the house...and I don't have raw fish or shrimp...and I don't think I have gel food..

Well my little buddy has finally started to eat, and hes quite the eater too tongue.gif. About 2 weeks ago we could say he decided to eat the grubs. Made me very happy when I saw him eating. He's one happy little betta now and he seems to be getting more healthy, strong, and his colour is getting a more solid blue and hes not looking so weak. Yay!

Great new about your betta biggrin.gif . I got a new betta about a month ago and went through the same thing. I tried about 4 different kinds of food and nothing, then suddenly last week he started to gobble betta bites. What a relief when you see them being little pigs huh? laugh.gif
