heartpump.gif This weekend I want to get a few more fish for my tank. I have to fantials and i oranda. I want to get some nice schooling fish, what kinds are sutable? Also, ive been having alot of algea problems, which some is ok, but some kind of algea eating fish would be nice. I have a heavily planted tank, so i dont want anything thats going to destroy my plants. If thats the case, i dont want one. I also have a snail, so I dont want anything thats going to bug my snail.

Thanks

So do I, but I kinda wanted something other then a goldfish. Some type of schooling fish would be kinda neat. I use to have red eyed tetras a while ago, had them three or four years with my goldies, before they passed on. Kinda wanted something with a different color then my goldies.

done. guppies. biggrin.gif

Guppies can really go in with goldies? You think the guppies would be fast enough so my goldies didnt eat them?

So people have made it work, but guppies and goldfish are really not the best mixture. Goldfish will eat your guppies.. and guppies prefer warmer temperatures. So it depends on whether you have a heater on your tank, and if you wanna risk the guppies as snacks.

In my 66 gallon planted tank, I have four fancy goldfish, 7 white cloud moutain minnows and 1 bristlenose pleco (ancistrus).

This combination has worked out very well for me. The ancistrus is an excellent algae eater. They have good appetites and you should supplement their food with algae wafers and blanched veggies.

White cloud mountain minnows come in two colours, beige and gold. Both are very pretty. They prefer cooler temperatures so are good with fancy goldfish. They have the same requirements for diet, as well, however I generally give the white clouds some flake food while the goldfish are occupied with their food. The white clouds like to take their food either from the surface or when it is floating down through the water. They don't pick off the bottom like goldfish. They pretty well stick to the upper levels of the tank. They like to be kept in a small group, so a shoal of at least 5 is a good number.

Hope this helps and please feel free to ask questions biggrin.gif

i have an alge eater too! its a magnetic alage scraper. I dont think i could handle the paranoia. i read in my book that alage suckers have sometimes been known to suck the eyes out of fancier varieties. i would die of paranoia.

There are a couple of algae eaters that are very peaceful with goldfish. Bristlenose and rubberlip plecos are good options and seem to remain peaceful with goldfish. They also remain small, under 5"

Common plecos and Chinese algae eaters can be troublesome, particularly when they get larger.

However, you are happy with your magnetic algae scraper ... so that is a good option for you biggrin.gif

I have a magnetic algea scraper, but its doesnt work on the ornaments.

The main thing I wanna know is will an bristnose eat my plants? I have a feeling most of them will, and I finally have my tank how I want it, and dont want it to become a salad bar.. biggrin.gif

Im gonna go to the LFS today and check out what fish they have. Ill let you know what I decide on, and ill post some pix up if I get any.

oohh.. you want it to go with your goldfish... guppies cant work so ive heard. plecos dont really eat plants. biggrin.gif

No, the bristlenose won't eat your plants. Also, they should have a piece of bogwood in with them, since it aids in their digestion.
Raith
or driftwood.. right?
touchofsky
Yes, any type of sinking wood smile.gif
