I was wondering about koi breeding. Is it like breeding goldies? I got two new koi for my pond today.

Pretty much, yeah. The chasing is much rougher though, and instead of a few hundred eggs you will find yourself with a few THOUSAND eggs. But other than that....
The fry are bigger when they hatch, and when hatched in the pond right away they grow at a much bigger rate than fry hatched in a tank. You wouldn't believe what they have available for them to eat in a pond - things that we don't even see. Not to mention a huge amount of healthy algae all over the walls. I would never hatch koi in a tank. A bigger tub out in the sun with algae already growing, and a nice green water is the way to go.

Ok algae is starting to grow on some of the plants already. Will snails affect them or the eggs. I still have to see if they are male or female.

Hi there
I have some koi in our pond. I just purchased a female. The pond man or koi man whichever he wishes to be called says to tell if you have a female is to look at the lashes, or flaps over their nostrals. The females have shorter little things by their nostrals and the males are longer. You need more males to the female. Also they make these brushes to catch the eggs, or they will eat their young. And of course they have a rough night lots of action in the pond, and they lay their eggs in the morning. Now that I know about, but goldfish, wow harder to deal with. Good luck. I found our female was just laying around on the bottom of the pond and the males where driving her crazy, hanging around her, just like a male.
Good luck, Lynda

Ranchugirl is right, a tub is better. The babies will eat the algae, so let the tub definitely get green. Easier to get all your babies.
Also was told the female has a rounder body while the male as a longer leaner body. Just like a male huh. Long and lean.
Good luck, Lynda
