newfish.gif I just bough a guppy and a platy to go with my other platy in my 10 gall tank!!The platy's name is Hotaru named after my other platy and my guppy is corona. The guppy's tail looks like a sunset. It's red orange and yellow with a few black spots.I was also wondering, will 100 GPH and an airstone be to much current?? unsure.gif
Thanks wink.gif

congrats on the new fish! x10 filtration depends on where the current is going and if you can position something in front of it to break it up. normally for an understocked tropical tank x4 filtration is adequate which is what an internal cannister for your size tank will be able to easily achieve.

congrats. pics please!! smile.gif

usually what i do is buy air pumps instead of air stones. you can change the rate the pump pumps. light pumps for small fish..
Whirlwind
Thanks-
I dont really have anything to break it up.I slowed the filter to around 50,but will that make the tank dirtier???

On my tank (where i hold my guppies) i don't put the filtration to
high. Mostly because i have plants, also because i keep my tank more "natural" I don't catch the baby guppies and put them in breeding traps.
I let them hide in the plants.

Anyways good luck with the new fish , and congrats,

Alex

On the other hand, I have a Penguin 170 on each of my guppy 10 gallon tanks, going full blast. One also has an additional small Aquaclear hanging off the front at this particular time. The guppies are not only thriving, but have been breeding (over 60 in yesterday's drop) and growing spectacular tails.

I have java moss growing up from large stones on the bottom of the tank - it blocks and breaks up any current quite well for the little fish. The ancharis and java moss do a great job of allowing the tiny babies to sit in almost currentless water, yet still letting me filter it and have a huge biobase to support the many many babies.

(As soon as the store takes all these little ones, I will have no more. The females and the males are split into separate tanks. These came from "already loaded" females that a friend gave me! blink.gif )

jtmuch.gif rofl2.gif Daryl Dear, sometimes you just have a way with words!!! I think I have an Aquaclear150 on my one tropical tank right now. It has a nice little current to it,but I kind of like that. Whirlwind ,if you have plants, whether they be live ,plastic,or silk, take a little time and move them around in places to help cut the current. I have mostly real plants in that tank.Right where the current falls,I have some planted anacheris. In front of that,I have a Bridge ornament.Between the two,it helps alot. I also have some floating Naja Grass, java moss, some kind of lily bulbs that are growing like crazy, some Val,Cabomba, and on the side of the tank I have three flat rocks that I washed very well, dried in the oven.I lined them up on top of each other as to where there are cubby holes for fish to go if they want. Just use your imagination-You'll be surprised how easy it is to come up with ways to slow the current down. Right now, that Particular tank has an ADF,one Lone Female Guppy, and a nice group of Cory's.Daryl.I wish you were closer....Those Guppies from all my LFS's,always do terrible. The one I have came from a breeder as a freebie for buying a goldfish! rolleyes.gif She looked pregnant, had the gravid spot & everything ,but no cigar....Don't know what happened during that work week.

Gee, lady - you want that I should send you some, huh?????

I will be happy to bag up a few dozen or more and mail them to you. I need to know how, though.

These are Tequila sunrise babies and Moscow reds with a few leopard blues thrown in, from the "unknown pedigreed" females!
