Hey all, I have a top fin 10 gal filter (came w/ the tank) and it's making a icky sound that sounds like soemthing is grinding... I'm thinking it is near the end of the line even though it is only about 8 months old. I'm a broke college student so what's the best 10 gal filter for cheap! Thanx!

Pull the peller out and make sure that its siting correctly most of the time it just that

I can't take it apart- I already tried.... it's an evil filter...

Ive always had topfin filters and personally, I hate them, but I learned the hard way how to fix em....

take it off hte back of the tank, ddrain the water out/take out the innards/etc...pull out the intake tube...sometimes is pretty tight, just yank it hard....

now when your looking down into it, you can see the impeller in the right side of it....I think theyre white.

now you want to turn it upside down...grab the whole motor part and twist it till its 90 degrees from its original position and pull down as you keep twisting....once thats out, either just grab the impeller and pull it out or use some tweezers(i can never get a hold of the slippery little devils...) to pull it out. take a Qtip and clean off hte goo in the hole where it sits and clean it a bit if you want too.

then you put it all back together...drop the impeller into the hole, twist the motor back on, and put your innards back in..simple as that! fixes it (almost) every time!!!
