Hello all

I am new to owning GF, and have recently bought 2 bubbleeyes for my 8 month old sone, whom loves to watch and laugh at the 2 ( Oscar and Meyer )
My question is what steps to I use to feed the GF foods such as lettuce, what is the proper procedure, these fish are only about 2 to 3 inches long.

Many thanks

Hello and welcome to Koko's.

Hopefully you are taking a look around the site and getting some helpful hints. In the meantime, make sure not to over feed them. GF can be quite persuasive in getting us to feed them more than they need. Veggies along with some fruits are a good varied diet. For lettuce you can tear a piece off and attach it to a veggie clip you can get from the fish store. Oranges you can chunk and throw in there (no seeds) just make sure you don't leave it in there. Only give them an hour of so to eat the orange and then remove it. It can crash your PH.
Gf love peas as well, it acts as a natural laxative for fish and will help to ward off SBD (swim bladder disease). Just thaw de shell them and cut them up and pop them in the tank.

Let us know if you have other questions, we love to help out and share our stories with fellow members. wav.gif

My goldfish had been feed goldfish flakes for a while and then i tried to feed them some peas and they did not eat them at all, but i know that my snails love cut and peeled seedless grapes. the peas, if you leave them in there too long they grow fungus on them and are no good. Leave them in there for about a half an hour.

Hope i was some help!!!

Hi and Welcome to kokos!

Flakes and pellets should be soaked for a minute or two in a small bowl of tank water. This insures that they will float and help prevent swim bladder disorders that can be a result of gulping air up at the top while eating.

I feed my goldies Progold from the Goldfish Connection. It is pellets that sink, a wonderful of everything that is very good for goldfish.

You can look at their website: Goldfish Connection
I also get their spirulina flakes which my fish just love. That food helps bring out the orange color naturally. smile.gif
