You probably know more about snails than me, but I believe snails and bettas are compatible, and I believe that bettas prefer warmish water.

Snails like it in the upper 70s-ish. Most bettas that I've heard about are downright evil to snails, eating tentacles and otherwise pecking at them and wounding them. However, some people have really placid bettas that don't harm the snails. Personally, I wouldn't risk it, but I suppose you could try a test.

And don't, don't, don't forget the calcium. smile.gif

rolleyes.gif My "calmest "Betta's have bitten snail tentacles!!! They just think bloodworm or something---just be prepared to move him-he may eventually figure it out-I guess each betta is different.

Sorry, can i jump in and ask a question? What is the smallest tank you could have as a snail tank? would a 2 or 3 gallon be ok, and if so, how many snails could go in it.

Thanks,

Rachel

i think the rule for snails is 2 gal/snail

I think my betta's gay....hes not very manly...flaring up and making bubble nests...he just sits and watches me around my room....

Ill give him a try with the snails, but I dont mind keeping him in his own little thingie....I just thought it would be nice cuz itll be heated

One, maybe, but a lot of snails get pretty big! You need to do some research first. smile.gif

Smack...in my 10 gallon snail tank, I use crushed coral as a substrate instead of gravel, I thought it would add to the calcium in the water. I would upgrade to the next size filter if I were you, snails are dirty...but if you already have a filter, don't worry for now. Heat, around 76. Um, I did have my female betta in the snail tank for ever, but I moved her (only because there were too many snails in there). She did bite their antanaes off here and there, but the snails learned to stay away. I would try it since your betta is um, calm. I'd do a bubble wall too if I were you. They love riding the bubbles! Plus they need air too.
