Have you thought about a betta? You could only have 1 but they are very pretty and I think snails are ok with them.

Read my topic about, what is best, guppies or molly or platy's and reply there as well if you like platy.

I agree that platys are a great choice, as are female bettas. Best to get five female bettas, though, as they get along better in a larger group. Also, if you get female bettas, you should get ones that are living together in a tank, and not ones that are sold in those little cups.

I also love corydoras catfish. Bronze (aeneus) and peppered (paleatus) are very hardy corys and they are so cute biggrin.gif Corys also like to be kept in a small group of about five or more.

Also, white cloud mountain minnows, or any of the danios would be a good choice.

We have decided to get 3 mollys. One all black one, one dalmation molly, and one all white one.

mollies like their water salted.

How much salt?

sandy
go to a .2% solution to start with. so that means 1 level teaspoon per gallon or 1 level tablespoon per 5 gallons for the u.s. then 12 hours later do the same again. see how they do at this solution and remember you cant add anything like plecs or corys to the tank when its salted. oh, and live plants cant take the salt either for long.

remember too that when you do water changes to remember how much you take out so you can add the salt back in.

We have them in there with out salt and they are doing fine so we think that they will be fine!!! We might not try the sale becuase then it will too confusing and everything!! Are mollies messy and make the tankj cloduy becuase i do not follow that water change every week thing becuase we can not afford to be filling up the tank once every week becuase w eare kind of low on cash right now.

Thanks Again!

why arent you using the tap water? just because they seem to be fine you will be shortening their lives.

That is it, our water bill will become high and then we would have to buy the chlor-out. I will see what a week brings when the water looks bad, i will change some of it. Okay we will try to get some salt, but i will only add like a teaspoon or tablespoon becuase it will cloud my water.

Thanks! I will go talk to the PETCO worker and see if they have salt in their tank and if not, then i am not placing any in mine. I will also ask the WALMART fish department if they have salt in their tanks becuase that is where we got them from.

this shows that mollies do best in brackish to saltwater but can go in freshwater though diseases are more prevelant with them being in freshwater.
its your choice after all, good luck with them, they are beautiful fish.
