A lady that I helped well over a year ago with her goldfish upgraded to a 75 gallon tank and decided that she wanted me to have her old 30 gallon tank. It came with a flourecent hood, Emperor 400 (minus biowheels), and a stand. I gave her $25. for it - I wanted the 30 to put on my stand that holds 2 thirty tanks - one above the other(I only have one on there right now.)

Great, I thought. But, no..... it seems it is a 30 long - 36 inches long, not the normal 30...... sad.gif It does not fit on my stand. I have no place for this tank......Now I gotta figure out where to put it......

Maybe two 10's would fit on the bottom of the stand and the 30 long on the top and it could go where the 10's are now. It is much wider, though.

I am disappointed. I know I should not be......but it would have worked so perfectly if it had been the normal 30......

Sigh. sad.gif

Shucks, too bad. It does sound like a great deal for $25, though smile.gif

That wouldn't discourage me at all, Daryl. I would go ahead and get a piece of the thickest plywood you can find at HomeDepot. Let the HD guys cut it to size, so the new tank fits snug on it. Then put the whole thing - plywood and new tank, on top of your stand, and the 30 gl you have right now fits on the bottom just fine.
A slight little thing like that never stopped me! rofl2.gif Well, I am not sure that is a good thing though....rolleyes.gif

Thats what I have, a 30 long, and I love it. More surface area is always a huge plus to me! smile.gif

I like Andreas idea about the plywood though. Or worst case scenario, just store it for a bit till you can figure out a place for it. Or, I know you are clever, you could build your own stand for it! wink.gif

hi, that sucks, but you got a really great deal. i'm sure you'll find some way to make it work. man i have been hunting for a deal like that for a long time. i wish i could find something like that here in New Mexico. not many ppl here are into fishkeeping. good luck. smile.gif

if the tank is just too long, the plywood trick will work. (better get solid wood tho biggrin.gif )

The stand I wanted to put it on is one that has litttle sticky-up legs on each corner, so the tank fits between them. I hafta figure a way to build up the area between the legs to support the tank - they stick up 1 1/2 iinches - perhaps some carefully cut and fitted plywood....... I like the stand because it is really commercial grade steel shelving and I have wheels on it that are rated for 1000 pounds. I can roll the thing out of the room into a back room if we have loads of guests and I do not want the tanks in the room. (I have hard wood floors - do not try this on carpet!)

I bought two new biowheels for the Emperor 400 - (They are pricey!), but the thing runs well and looks almost new. I think I am pleased - it just is going to take a bit more doing that I had originally thought. She threw in a nice tank divider, too! (Found that in the filter box.) The stand she gave me does not quite fit two 10 gallon tanks side by side. ( another option) sad.gif

High winds, hail, heavy rains have prevented me from going out to get wood - I shall try today. smile.gif (Tornados were a little south of here)

Yes, I can imagine that it would take a near tornado to stop you from going out to get the wood rofl2.gif
