I know the rule of "no more than what they can eat in a 2min period." But is there a better way to "measure" it....say one teaspoon for 6 goldfish approximately 4" in length, a feeding?
I never was really very good at cooking/baking with "a pinch of this" and "a dash" of that.

Here's a thread from a little while back. I replied to it. Hopefully

It is actually better to underfeed than overfeed, even though goldfish would like to eat till they pop!
Overfeeding causes all sorts of problems including high nitrates as well as generally polluting the tank--from the rotting uneaten food and excess poop from eating too much.
So by feeding the right amount, you are properly caring for you fish.

It just never looked like enough!!!! Guess it's like feeding your child adult portions.
And since I have started using Progold...my nitrates did jump!

I know what you mean...that was my goldies reaction too

but they're fine now with having 4 pellets each

Once a week,I give them a treat and feed them bloodworms too aside from their weekly peas

Guess they just have to wait while their "stomachs shrink." But, boy oh boy, do they get excited when I walk into the room!!

My gold fish hated me when i cut down on their meal size. But now they get shrimp and rice and loads of other stuff, not just pellets and peas with some banana as a treat. I went quality over quantity

They were getting some of that stuff too, MegCarrol. So I've really cut them waaaayyyyy back and they are NOT happy about it.
Pearl is hidding in the corner and Brains was actually bitting me when I was cleaning out the tank. Usually Brains will nip gently but not today. She was bitting as hard as she could!!! Guess she thought that my arm was a snack

The excitement will always be the same though...mine really gets excited too when I walk pass the tank.I see to it that I don't meet their eyes or they'll be giving me hungry looks and I'd always give in and give them extra food

Hi, I am as usual confused a little. I have just recently purchased a 55 gallon tank, put the goldfish from my pond (our fish had lots of babies last year), in our tank. I fell in love with this other fish an Oranda, named George. I made the gel food, which turned out great. How much do you feed the fish this gel food. A pinch or a small piece (about 1/4 x 1/4 square)??? I do not feed the fish pellets, I have some from my koi pond. I have been using flakes. I figured a pinch for the fish that I have (5 including the Oranda). I figured less than a dime size. But how much of this per day, three times, four or less??? Thanks Lynda
