Your in australia i assume? Well i cant help much anyways as i havent used pro aqua. They are slightly cheaper than the aqua ones though, maybe that is an indication? I'm planning my new tank atm too and i'm thinkin of a HOB and the canister i have as HOB are smaller and cheaper.

I also have an aqua one cf1200 smile.gif

When I was choosing canister filters a little while ago, my LFS guy did not recommend the Aqua Pro: he said the cheap price is reflected in its less-than-ideal quality. He recommended instead either a Fluval 404 or the Eheim Pro III (actually he rated the Fluval pretty much as good as the Eheim, the only real difference being the Eheim's slightly better ease of use, e.g. it is a little easier to prime than the Fluval). However, the price tag difference is enormous! I think you can get Fluvals and Eheims in Australia - have a look around. smile.gif

In the end, I went for two Fluval 304's, and they work very well indeed on their own (I have a 90 gallon tank with 4 GF). But many GF keepers recommend a big canister and a good HOB combined, as the canister takes care of the biological filtration and the HOB does the heavy mechanical work.

Hope this helps. smile.gif

Yea Eheims and Fluvals come with a massive price tag... just did a quick price check around a few online shops (the cheapest places i've seen) and did a bit of a range.. AU dollars of course.

Pro Aqua (1200L/hr) - $90-120

Aqua One cf1200 (1200L/hr) - $135-170

Fluval (1300L/hr) - $210-339

Eheim (1000L/hr) $318-497

thats just a quick skim through a few sites but you can obviously see the price difference, i dont know if its that much in america. If you actually bought these filters at your LFS you'd be paying more in my experience (i.e the aqua one (which i have) was $135 online, over $200 at any lfs i went to).

ok cool guys, i have also found local shops are so expensive, i just buy the tanks off them now, so i already have the aqua one 1200, so do you think it would be better to get a really good hang on, instead of say a really good canister???
svendenhowser
I think the aqua ones are the best "budget" canister around, but if your willing to spend the dosh, well great! I'm sure the fishes will love it tongue.gif But if it were me (which as i said i'll be doing soon) I'd keep the aqua one and add a large HOB, as best quality as you can afford i guess.

biggrin.gif Well i have an aqua pro 4 which does 1200 lh and it is great and very affordable although if you get the seal even slightly wrong or dirty it leaks however the guy at my lfs was very helpful he has had the same difficulties with all the pumps even the eheim but i was told that although they are cheap the aqua pro are just as good as eheim biggrin.gif biggrin.gif but then again he sells all the brands so the aquas might just have the best markup rofl3.gif

what about an aquaclear 500 hang on

http://www.aquariumproducts.com.au/category4_1.htm

would this work well with my aqua one cf1200 canister?? and where would i hang it so it works best, and so the canister cleans from the bottom, as thats very important to me as i'm having a bare bottom, and the hang on will help with the rest of the cleaning, do you think these would work well together???? i'm sorry if i'm sounding like a plain, i just want to make sure i'm buying the best i can afford for my fish. and i also dont know hardly anything about filters. biggrin.gif
eddiebunsell
biggrin.gif well you have the aussie equiv of my filter you are in australia yeah i am in the uk so can't help much but on that site for around half the price of what you are looking at you can get Supreme Aqua Bio Filter ( 600lph ) i dont know whether they are any good but it looks like they do exactly the same job but by the photo looks like you have the added bonus of being able to see when it is getting clogged blink.gif don"t know if it will help hopefully someone else here may have experience with Supreme Aqua Bio Filter ( 600lph ) or living in auss would be a start

YOU KNOW WHAT EDDIEBUNSELL, i think i will grab two of those, ones you mentioned, then i can use one of each in my two tubs that i'll be holding my fish in until i have paid off my big tank, and then i will place them both in my large tank when i get it with my aqua one, does this sound like a good idea to you and everyone else???? that means i will have3200 lph.

I also found an australian company who sells penguin filters smile.gif first one i've ever seen, a little more pricey (only $30 extra than the aqua clear 500) but from what the americans have said they are far better quality than the aqua clears. http://www.aquaticlifeaquariums.com.au/

But your thinking of getting 2 of the supreme aqua ones? I have no idea about the quality of them, but they do seem extremely cheap. I'd look up on the quality first before diving in (i'm totally against impulse buying tongue.gif except when it comes to the actual fish.. not many people have the strength to resist that!!) Look at buying extra/replacement filter media, can you buy it redily? Also parts, the impeller, intake tubes and the like, but then again they are so cheap you could just buy a whole new one with the filter media dies tongue.gif hehe

ok i'm so cunfused now and i'm really starting to hate filter shopping, so to everyone, which hang on filter would you say is the best hang on filter, needing to do at least 900 lph, for a 100 US GALLON tank.

thanks
