I wasd wondering if fish like the stick on backrounds that make the tank look like a rock y or planty thing!!!

My goldfish could care less. My cichlid however, needs one, he feels to -exposed- if there is not background or sarong over his tank. lol. Hes not a fish that likes to be looked at or in the sunlight.

I would think most fish prefer it as it doesnt make their home feel so open.

I really dont think the fish care at all....I personally dislike them...I can never get them to look right... blink.gif

Im not positive if my fish like it or dislike it. I didnt have a background for the longest time, and when I did finally get one, they didnt act like anything changed. If it was me, I would feel exposed..... but who knows how they feel. I personally like backgrounds. I have just a solid black one. Looks better to me then looked at the backs of the filters and all the wires. Main reason why I put mine up. I found the best way to get one on right is to wet the background with a sponge, then put it on, and push out all the bubbles. It has worked the best for me. Then just tape the sides. Flawless everytime!

I think the fish don't care to much about a background. I think the background is a great way to hide the filters and wires also.

The background seems to be more important to us. biggrin.gif

It's hard to tell. I myself DO like having the background, so that's part of it. But I think I remember that they seemed happier -- less exposed, perhaps -- once they got the background, so I think they noticed. Just to be on the safe side, I have already purchased an identical background for my future 46-gallon tank, in case I wind up someplace that doesn't sell that background. I spoil my fish, I know.

i don't know if i like them or not. i know i will like that they cover the tubes and junk that is not so pretty to look at. although i think i will be getting one for the reasons that the rest have already posted. now to find on that doesn't look cheesy.

oh, and i think it is sooo cute that you would get the identical background for your new tank for your fishies "just in case". i'd do the same thing! smile.gif

I agree with Technigold....I like that it help hides the filters and cords, etc

My first back ground was peices of black construction paper with little green leaf shaped paper glued on to look like plants. Total cost: about 3 bucks (for glue and entire package of paper) I taped it onto the back of my tank. lol its still there, bravley fighting time and water damage.

PS When i took it down for minor repairs this week, the fish were freaking out because the could see the bright white wall, when i put it back, all was well in the Carroll Goldie Tank.

I don't know if the fish really care or not but I really like a background. Sometimes I get bored with them and make a new one. I use all kinds of things, like if I see some pretty material, or wrapping paper. Sometimes I cut poster board to size and paint it. I just made 2 today and covered them with glitter paint.

sometimes it pays off to be creative in the background department... i know i think the ones at the stores are a bit on the cheesy side. try some material or even paper. i had bamboo placemats fastened to the back of my tank and it looked really cool and very natural. now i have brown paper with korean writing on it that i got at a japanese tea house.... that turned out pretty good too! good luck! smile.gif

I am going to try to make a backround that has river rocks and trees and plants or maybe even make it look like a sunken ship with the treasure box down ther eso it will cover the wires.
