Matt Newcomb
Hey,

I just bought a new goldfish (female) for my male. The male has been chasing her around the tank for about two days but she doesn't seem to be laying any eggs. She is extremely swollen and they are both about four inches in length. Am I doing something wrong? Is there a way I can really encourage them to breed. I am uncomfortable with hand breeding.

i think you should separate the female from the male for awhile, hes too beat up..

If you have a heater you will want to raise the temp. about 1-2 degrees a day..Let it get up around 75 degrees. You will want to have a plant ( live or plastic) If you have done those thing i dont really know what is wrong. Does the male have stars?

They might have bred at night and eaten the eggs, she might be egg bound, he might just be a jerk like my male, who chases to 'put the females in their place' (how dare they swim near him)
My female gets really bound up with eggs, and she doesnt pass them. I have tried to hand breed her and she just cant pass them. She has laid clutches before but some times she just gets bound. Could this be the problem?
