hi, i am such a chicken! i really really want to start feeding my fish fruits and veggies, but i am so afraid of something happening to my fishies. i even gave Platinum, my comet, a small tid-bit of banana. He ate it fine and opened and close his mouth a lot. is this him just trying to chew the squishy banana? well he is great now, but i can't work up the courage to give it to the rest of my guyz.
today i went to petsbarn and a lfs and i saw that in both places they had zuccini and orange slices in the gf tanks and all the gf were fine. do you think i am just being paranoid? were any of you like this when you first started feeding fresh foods?
basically i am looking for the " don't worry it's o.k" type thing and any suggestions on something relatively safe to feed to my guyz to start out with. i was thinking baby food peas unsalted and no sugar?

thank you guyz.

Yeah, your fish was probably just chewing the banana.

I used to be afraid to feed my goldfish anything other than store bought fish foods. The first veggies I fed my fish were peas, then I tried to feed her carrots, lettuce, red peppers, cucumbers, and broccoli, but she the only veggies that she will eat are peas and cucumbers. Other than peas and cucumbers my fish likes green apples cut into bite sized pieces, bananas, tangerines, oranges, grapes, strawberries, and boiled egg whites.

I was never paranoid. I had fun! It was cool to try new stuff out on them and see what they liked. I think by far, peas and corn have been their favorite. With the exception of brine shrimp, but I don't like to give that cause its messy. Mine ate banana, but didn't like it too much it seemed. They really go crazy over oranges. I just zap frozen peas in the microwave a few seconds, peel em, and squish them. Same with frozen corn. Orange, I just cut off a slice and put it in the vegetable clip. I have yet to try zucchini though. Maybe I did I can't remember. They really didn't seem to like lettuce though, which I thought was odd.

you shouldnt worry that much.
Do u feel that way about YOUR food and nutrition? NO.
So, is it normal to feel like this for your fish? NO.

I dont mean to feed them anything, but you shouldnt be THAT worried. I say that for you! Sometimes when we care too much about something, something bad happens to it...

I'm not afraid to try feeding the fruits and veggies but I worried more what it will do to my water quality. I know there are tons of gel recipies on this site that would probably help with that though

oranges and grapes (especially grapes) will make the tank cloudy so take them out if there is any uneaten bits. I was a little scared at first as well as my goldie has gone through so much in the past, i didnt want anything to happen to her! But she loves the fresh foods, so when i added more fish, i didnt care in the least.

My Mopy thinks bananas are food from the gods, she nearly dies if she realises that whuts shes eating. lol She LOVES them.
