Hi, My ranchu has been acting very unusual for the past couple days. I seems very stationary at the bottom of the tank or in my plants, which is very unusual b/c hes a mover. The also seems to be breathing very fast and i see is gills flapping. Im pretty sure the o2 levels are fine, I have many plants and the other goldfish in the tank dont mind. Also is poop is very odd. It is long about 7 inches and half transparent, the other half (closest to body) there is a layer of transparent poo then odd looking brownish greenish poo that comes out, which i never see
I have a penguin 350
Water parameters:
-Ammonia, nitrate, nitrite 0
-Ph out of tap is 5.5, increased to 7.2

Also no new fish no wierd spots
tank is 33 gal/ 4 fish 3 are still baby ran for about 2 months since I switched them from smaller tank

Please help!! Thank you

HI Ismellikefish.

The first thing I notice is that your tank isn't cycled. You may want to read up on this.

Also I see that the PH is very different from tap to tank. Do you use a buffer of any kind? And if so what is it?

Was gasping for air in my plants and on my substrate for a few days; Then he finally croaked. Actually I just put him out of his misery. I saw that 2 of his scales were missing and on the same side his scales were all kinda starting to peal off. I checked all my ammonia, nitrates, and nitrites...all good, all my other fish are good so I think it was a bunk fish. Thanks for almost helping. smile.gif

It could still be that your tank isn't cycled, and that means you could end up having problems with the other two. And if your drasitcally changing their pH all at once that could be another major problem. You might want to find out before whatever it is ends up harming your other fish. Definitely cycle your tank.
