Where I live we still have well water. (the good stuff straight from the ground) but it is very hard water. We installed a water softener that uses salt.

I was wondering if it is ok to use this water and if i need to test it for salinity or something? How could this be treated?

I have a ten gallon right now and have been importing water from my grandmas house who is on city water. I am thinking of getting a bigger tank and really don't want to haul that much water that far.

Thanks

As far as I know, you should be fine using the softened water. That's
what I use, if I remember to put salt in the water softener. The % of
salt is going to be very little, so no need to worry about that. smile.gif

Really Paul? Interesting to know, I always though that soft water was not ideal for goldies. Thanks for letting me in on that! biggrin.gif

When I was living on a farm we used well water, but it was brought in by a water truck which got it from a water holdy thingy(sorry cant think tonite). Anyhow we picked up the water. I wouldnt use it outta the taps cuz it was held in a well. So I would grab a few jugs outta the tap for my fish. Im geussing you dont have that privlage. How hard is the water? I forget how hard goldies can take it but I think its like 5.5-8.5. Someone let me know. Im interested now. My water now is 7.0-7.5.

So could you post your test readings on your well water before and after the softener?

my well water is 36 on the water scale (its hard as a brick our water) and since we got the softener, the fish have been alot happier. (not to mention no more chalky lime stuff on the tank) I am sure soft water is good to use. Or maybe ours is still hard, lol.
