Hi, just out of curiosity, I wanted to ask if neons and small goldfish can go together. I am not planning on adding any new fish to my tank but it was a thought that has been driving me crazy wondering.

Perhaps...if you try hard to make it work.

1. neons are tropical
2. goldfish grow to a foot, neons 2 inches

I would say that unless the tank is heated then neons wouldnt do well at low temperatures. The next best thing are white cloud mountain minnows.
goldies grow really big and the neons would become snack food unless you had the slower fancy types. of course that would apply to the minnows as well

My neons and goldies got along fine. But considering the size that goldies can get compared to the neons I thought it best to put the goldies in a bigger tank before they decided that the neons looked like a nice little snack. biggrin.gif

I tried it once and my goldies had them as a midnight snack. When the goldies grow big they definaltely will eat them. It didn't work for me. I now have rainbows in with them and they get along well. Toothless told me that they are compatible with goldies and 4-6 of them equals to one goldfish.

Also id like to add that these fish are tropical. And there one of the
most sensitive tetras. And the odds of them staying alive with the goldfish
for over a year won't be possible.

The goldfish will most probably mistake them as food.
