Hey Lozbug,
Hope you found the calcium bentonite. It is under koi in Ebay. I asked our koi guy and he says its great for koi and humans.
We have koi and gf in the same pond for three spings now. They do great together. Just our gf had babies and we where afraid they will overtake the pond. Now we are just waiting for the spring flowers to come up. The fish stay in the pond all year, even with our ice and snow, the pond just never really freezes over. Even if it did, you can keep the koi in there all winter. We let our pond spill over on purpose. It helps clean keep the water cleaner. We use barley also. It is great stuff. We have a spillway in our pond, kind of like your waterfall. You are going to enjoy sitting by your pond. We put a female koi in our pond the other day. All the boys hand over her. Won't leave her alone. I love seeing your pond pictures. As soon as our flowers bloom and it looks great I will post the pond.
For another filter, we used 1/2 a wine barrel, put an old fashioned pump with pvc through the spot. We lined the barrel with extra liner we had, made a wood top to sit the pump on and a cover for the other half, and it looks cool. We used air conditioner filters to filter the water and have a small pump to pump water back in the pond. That is where we put the bag of barley. It looks cool sitting there. Good luck with your pond.

Hi David,
I don't have snails around, but we sure have frogs. They have moved in. Wish the gf and koi loved frog legs. Lynda

biggrin.gif Loz,the Clematis,Primroses,Hosta's,etc. all look like they're doing wonderful! Oh and the mini bridge add on sounds like it would be wonderful......... heartpump.gif
Lozbug
Thanks Devs, though you would lkr that smile.gif hopefully my grandad will build it for me, he built our bird table & gaxebo.

Thank gain Lynda - you are great i tell ya! i had thought about barly, the wine barrle sounds fab too. I do want to keep GF & koi and i know someone else who kept both with no problems.

Cant wait for weekend so i can go lfs & garden places for a look about - and if weather is good, maybe start work on the other stream/plant nursery smile.gif
Raith
i wanna go swimming in the pond! YAYYY!
femmeartist51
Hey Lozbug,
Spoke to two different pond companies. They thought the wine barrel was a great idea. Just used the pcv pipe through the old pump, because we didn't want any iron or paint flakes getting into the pond. The water slows through the pvc and not actually through the metal of the old hand pump. Looks great. I will take a picture and show you. Lynda
Lozbug
sound like a plan, maybe next time wink.gif

alrighty then.... photos from today, got some more watercress yesterday (diff variety) and an arum lily... also some for rockery too, we have alos dug out the rest of the bank behind the swing bench as one pipe outlet from filter is going to be across there to supply plant nursery in near (poss next weekend) future and we put some of that plastic down to stop weeds.

enjoy smile.gif

its a hole in the ground, it won't be that bad. Also, the larger

Great Pond, Once I get my house in a year or so I plan on putting one of those ponds in. Is it expensive to run the filter all the time? And how much did the filter cost you? And last question, do you run the filter year round, even in the winter when the pond freezes over?

Thanks

Mark

goldfishlover000... could you please refrain from using capitol letters in your posts. I have noticed that your last few postings are all capitols. It's interpreted as YELLING in the computer world and we want to make sure everyone gets the right message around here. Sorry if it sounds picky... but it's internet etiquette

Thanks for understanding

not it isn't that exspensive, dosent really make a dent in the bill. the filter... cost???? £100 or so i think i cant remember? yeh i leave filter on 24/7, the pond dosent freeze completely and i have a 'tetra winter island' to keep a patch ice free just in case.

i can leave the filter on 24/7 as i don't have a waterfall so the pump can run thru the cold.

It's beautiful. Thank you so much for showing it all come together. I can't believe what a wonderful transformation you did! You should be so proud.

Your view and grounds around it are fab!

I love the bench, I don't think I would ever leave it. I saw you said all you need is a glass of wine & I was thinking the same thing befor I read it. I think I would end up sleeping on it!

I just saw that heron at ebay and put it on my watch list! It looks even better in your pics.

I scanned alot of the post and was just looking at the pics, did I miss it did you add fish yet?

I didn't see where you live, but I have Koi in my pond, a couple of shubunkins and had a telescope in there but now he's in a hospital tank since the wter turtle ate his tail off. (the turtle has a new home now, I wouldn't suggest you put a turtle in there). Anyway I will put the telescope back in when his tail gets longer he loved it.

The Koi are easy easy in my experiance. They take care of themselves. The hardest thing I've had is protecting them from prey.

We installed a scare crow that really helps keep the birds away.

Your going to love this, enjoy the lazy summer evening beside it and thanks again for showing us all. I look forward to seeing more. Congratulations!!!!!!!!!
