I'm in the uk so medicated food is a little hard to come buy, short of illegally importing it lol.GIF but i have seen some metromed on ebay (nobody dare bid against me tongue.gif ) is it worth getting? Its not that cheap but i'd hate to need it and not be able to get any, on the other hand if its no good i'll keep looking until i can get medigold.

Thanks,

Metro Med medicated food is a very good food. It takes care of certain bacteria infections as well as intestinal worms and a few other internal parasites. It is purported to be one of the best remedies for combating dropsy.

Medigold is yet another antibiotic - it is effective against different strains of bacteria.

Between the two of them you will cover a large band of infectious bacteria and a few parasites.

The main problem you are going to have it that these are basically food infused with antibiotics. They have a limited shelf life. I have found that vacumn packing the food into individual "dose" packages lengthens the shelf life by as much as 3 months, but it still is a relatively short time. You cannot freeze it or refrigerate it to lengthen this time.

So, purchasing the medication in hopes of stashing it away for future use is probably not the best idea. Unless you have immediate need, chances are that it will no longer be good when you do need it. sad.gif

Ok, thanks for that. I didn't realise the shelf life was so short.

The problem is in the uk we can't just buy this stuff, grr, so as i saw some on ebay i thought i'd get in just in case because if i ever need it i might not be able to get it. If its not going to be any good by then tho theres not much point.

huh.gif That is a very frustrating dilemma.

It really seems like the UK would have medicated food--goldfish/koi keeping is quite popular and there are clubs, etc.

Although the members of this forum who live in the UK have to rely on members from the US to mail the medicated foods to them....
