My Betta died recently after a water change... Still not sure what happened, I had it for along time, and everything was just like it always was when i change the water, but a couple hours later he died......

Anyways, im thinking of getting another betta. I had his tank on my desk, and whenever I go sit at my desk, just an empty tank is sitting there. So, what color should I get??

Oh Oh, another thing I just HAD to share. last week while I was at petco I was kinda pleasantly suprised. You know how the bettas at nooppee, petsmart and petco ECT always have their bettas in those tiny cups? Well petco has finally switched over to much MUCH larger containments! I was sooo suprised. I asked them why they decided to change them, and they said they felt it wasnt enough room for them, and people were complaining about how cruel it was.

I like unusual colors but I'd take healthy over any color!!!!!

biggrin.gif I know that our Petco changed the cup size too.It was a pleasant surprise. Now the betta's won't have a permanent kink in their tail from being bent all the time. The way I figure is Hey,at least it's a step in the right direction. yeah.gif As for Jenn,I'm with her. It's all about picking heathy(Although I have been known to come home with a pitiful betta here and there-you know "Save the world kind of thing) Most times though, the betta was too far gone to help. I basically look them all over, and listen for the one that talks the loudest. You'll know which one to buy when you see him! wink.gif

Oooo! Picking betta colors is a tough one! That's why I have 7, I will go to the strore and see one that's unusual, or just really pretty, and I'm like "okay little guy, I'll take you home. " smile.gif Bettas are so cool though!

I am glad that stores are catching on about the cups! The Wal-Mart here uses bigger cups, although that doesn't mean they take any better care of them. I bought a female there that had tail rot, so bad that she had sores on her body. cry3.gif I took her home, put her in a half gallon, kept her water really clean with some Melafix, and now she lives with my other females in a 20 gallon.

Good luck on your selection! biggrin.gif

I went to the petstore today while I was buying some lights for my 55 gallon, and saw beauties but couldnt make up my mind. Ill probably go back tomorrow, I had one in mind. He was a really pretty purple color, with green highlights. Im really thinking im going to get him!

I know what you mean about "save the world" type thing. Awhile ago, I bought this betta at walmart that had fin rot too, and now thats hes better, he really isnt that pretty. I love him, and love having him, but if I didnt get him, no one would. hes white, with bits of purple and red on him. Not very pleasing to the eye, but I love him!

Let us know what colour you finally decide to get! I love picking out a new betta biggrin.gif

I, too, rescued a betta from Wal-Mart and he has turned out to be a kind of reddish orange colour. He looked a dull brown in the cup, so I guess that is why he sat there for weeks and weeks. Anyway, he is quite pretty now and is healthy and happy biggrin.gif .

Yeah, it's sad that if a betta isn't very colorful, no one wants it. My female is kind of gray, with a dark back half. Looks almost like she's wearing a skirt. biggrin.gif

Definitely keep us posted on what you decide!

I wish the petco around here would switch to larger containers. Sometimes they have the females in a tank, but never the males...always in small containers with not enough water. Anyways, my betta recently died also and I'm thinking of getting a new hermit crab instead...i ahve another betta and plenty of fish anyways...though I falways love more. biggrin.gif

In my town, we have Petsmart, they use the little cups also. mad.gif Another thing I have always thought was strange is that the water in their cups is usually blue. huh.gif Does anyone know why? I wondered if it was medicine, which is fine, but you can't ever tell what color the betta is!
BigRedandBlindWillie
I think its some kind od water condition/anti stressor. I remember when I used to buy fish at petsmart, they would ALWAYs add that blue stuff to the bag with the fish. So I figured it was the same stuff in the betta bowls. I also noticed the blue tint. The only place that doesnt use that blue stuff is a local craft store...... Still dont think fish belong there, but yeah. mad.gif

Im not POSITIVE what it is, but thats what I think it is. unsure.gif

That makes sense to me. biggrin.gif

it could be methylene blue... a general fish med and antiseptic...they're probably using it to keep the fish healthy... we use it from time to time at work on our fish and it turns the water blue

Exactly, it's methylene blue. So glad to hear you've got another betta, they are so addicting!

Just keep your eye open for one you like. I go by more than just color..I look at pattern, health, personality, and cute little faces!
