I bought a female and would like to know if she can stay with him in the tank with him when they are not mating?

smile.gif Hi,Welcome to the board. It is really not advisable to keep the two together at all.You will definately be asking for trouble-for sure. They give each other a hard time even when they're mating, and once that's over, the male wants no part of the female. rolleyes.gif

I tried it a couple of times... :crp Both times they all ended up dying from diseases as they stressed each other out and were more susceptible to illness. sad.gif

As everyone else said, Betta's do best living alone. Most of the time only females will sometimes get along. For the most part, the male and female will fight and they will get either hurt, or may be killed. Good luck! smile.gif

Welcome to the forum biggrin.gif

I currently have three male bettas, two sharing a divided 5 gallon tank, one in a 2 gallon by himself, and 11 females, 7 sharing one tank and 4 in another.
