Hello!
I'm going to make my first order of Progold. The thing is my 2 gf are small still, only several months old (and not growing too big, I think they were runts as they are in a 29 gal. -xoxo) so I've stuck to a mini pellet. My question is what other products do you all like? The salad supreme seems good, but the only size is one pound and I don't think they'd go through it in the recomended six months. Spirulina? Thanks!!!
Ranchugirl
The pellet for the salad supreme looks almost like an algae disc, and big, but it could be my eyes too...rolleyes.gif
The foods from GFC I have tried so far besides the Spirulina flakes is the Progold, as well as the seafood flakes. They are both excellent foods, and the flakes do sink, not float endlessly on the surface. Some other things I would give a try is frozen bloodworms - its high in protein and can help along with the growing....smile.gif

If you want to try the Spirulina let me know, I have a huge bag of it and would be will to send you some for free. biggrin.gif

Hi erica,
The food from Goldfish Connection is great but like you said, it comes in large quanities.

Koko, how wonderful of you to share it!!!! My fish love those spirulina flakes!

I would be willing to pay you for the shipping and for some of the flakes. Let me know how much and i will love you for ever!
Also, i am wondering how many pellets to feed my fish a day. They are only about 3 inches long, nose to tail. They are bubble eyes. I have been feeding twice a day about 4 or 5 pellets each time. I soak them first and usually split the larger ones in 1/2. Each 1/2 I count as one pellet. Am i doing this right?

Thanks for any help!

Sorry it took so long for me to get back!! Thanks for your generous offer Koko!!!! I did end up buying the spirulina flakes but i have to crush them a little because the flakes are a little big for one fish. And THANK YOU so much for recommennding the ProGold!!!!! No more floaty problems! I alternate with the spirulina and my little piglet has no floaty issues anymore! I was so worried... You're really on the money with that food. And everything!!

Hi to all. I am brand new to this, and feel very fortunte to have found your site. I am just starting with goldfish, and was researching the best food to use. based on your advice I will be switching from flake food, and will try pro-gold. newfish.gif

welcome deedeesue!! My experience with kokos probably kept me from killing my little fish. When i set up my tank i knew NOTHING about cycling or anything. Though i feel like i've done a million water changes it was worth it. You'll always get good advice here from the kind members. I was using hikari food (and peas and other things) but one of my fish suffered from constipation, often confused with swim bladder disease (you can't really wait all day to see if they go!) and i wasn't sure what was going on. I was also concerned with the expense of the pro gold food. But i'll tell you my fish are happier and healthier than ever. It really is the best thing i've tried. Alternate with the spirulina (i have to crush it a little, my gf are small) and you're ready! good luck, the goldies are fun to have around. And don't worry if they always act hungry, they are little piggies!

Thanks for the welcome biggrin.gif

I lost this thread somehow when I fist started, and just ran across it again.

My goldies have been on Progold for about a week now, and their poop is brown and crumbly banana.gif

I do have to cut some of the bigger pellets in half, as my fish are still small.

they sure love that stuff, none of it is wasted. biggrin.gif

Hi - Kokos saved my fish's life! I also ordered Pro-Gold form the recommendations here and have been looking forward to reporting that it really is as great as everyone says. You can ask for the smaller bag of spirulina (I think it is 8 oz.) - it may not be listed on the site... I can't remember - but they do have one. At first I thought it was a lot, but GN is chomping his way through it pretty fast!

I do have to say that when I started feeding GN ProGold - he doubled in size! Almost immediately! Whatever GC puts in that food - hatsoff! GN loves it.

I used Medi-Gold, too which was really helpful when he had flukes. TO be extra sure, I made gel food with metronidazole, Medi-Gold, spirulina, and some other goodies that I got at GC (for the frogs - krill and shrimp pellets) - and GN recovered very quickly.

They are also very nice and extremely helpful at GC. Thanks fo rthe recommendation!

no offense sad.gif but... who are you, saying a goldfish has "almost immediately" doubled its size by just feeding pro-gold will cause a commotion... can you provide pic sad.gif , and please please note that it's not just the diet that determines the size of a fish it's the entire enviroment, from living space, area suitability, and diet.

once again no offense sad.gif

blink.gif I dunno if a rave for ProGold will cause a commotion here, as the phrase "almost immediately" is definitely relative. smile.gif It could just be a comparison between the speed of growth before the ProGold and after... and even then, there are definitely TONS of other factors in the goldie's growth pattern.

I would also be willing to say that Paddles' growth has increased significantly since I started feeding him ProGold with spirulina flakes, and he has gotten a lot brighter in color than he was on Wardley food. However, there are also the factors of the illness that struck my tank prior to the ProGold feedings; my advancing knowledge of fish care in general in coincidence with the ProGold, including improved water quality; and the fact that Paddles is still very small and could grow sporadically based on his genetics.

No commotion from me, my goldies do love to eat ProGold though... though that really isn't saying much. They try to eat my hand when I put it in the tank (awww, fish kisses! OW hey! ...) peepwallA.gif

Edit: based on Graham's thread earlier, I'd say that my impression is that GN is one big ole healthy fish, either way! The picture in my head is of a 23423-inch-long goldie chomping on a house wall. No wonder his fishmom was wonderin for awhile where she'd keep him laugh.gif

Hi - I meant no offense - I just put what I thought I observed and I attributed it to the food, that's all, since most of his other conditions remained the same at the time. Maybe he had some gentic program to grow alot all at once coincidentally with his new food, I don't know but I have never seen something like that - it was very quick! It's my first gf so what do I know...

Sure do have to be careful around here! Thanks for the encouragement, EB!

it's the phrase "he doubled in size". most of the people who just started to use pro-gold because of koko, also had their awareness heightened because they read articles or member's tips during the new user's usual search of "the perfect food", I'm just afraid that statements with no concideration of other factors will cause people to look for these miracle solution and stop them from taking in account of factors not mentioned.

But if he said something like "I have tried pro-gold as suggested by the users here, I do my usual maintenance check, weekly water change, and instead of feeding "Tetra"(no offense tetra I'm going to use you as an example) I used pro-gold and my fish has almost doubled in size since the switch!" stating that the only change in the goldfish was the diet would prove something.

no offense to you guys once again

If you wouldv'e stated something like that before I would have taken your observation in account before and said something like "what food were you using before"

No offense for pointing you out graham I just don't want people to gamble what they love so much with a hope of a "miracle", whether it be food or whatever
