I was wandering around the garden center at nnnnnn this afternoon and came upon a potting soil for aquatic plants... the packaging says that it is "safe for all fish" with "neutral pH" and "100% Natural Minerals".... Here's the description on the back of the bag:

QUOTE
"Schults Aquatic Plant Soil is 100% Fullers Earth, a natural mineral that has been kiln fired to create ceramic granules. It is non-toxic and wont cloud water or float around to clog filters and pumps.... Schultz Aquatic Plant Soil also provides a suitable environment for fish to lay eggs... contains no peat moss or compost that can cloud water or become a food source for bacteria or algea...."

The granules are just a bit finer than regular aquarium gravel, and being that the packaging says its safe for fish- do you think this would be just as suitable as a tank substrate as it is for pond plants? At $7.00 a bag, its much cheaper than the plant-specific substrate at the pet store. What do you guys' think?

Joneus, it sounds okay, the only thing that worries me is its size. If its smaller than gravel, and you would use it as substrate on the bottom of your tank (not confined to any kind of pot), then it is very possible that the goldfish might accidentally swallow it, joking on it. It isn't a pleasurable thing having a fish in one hand, and a tweezer in the other, trying to get a piece of stuck substrate out of the fish's throat.
If you wonna put it into a terracotta pot and use it as substrate for you planted plants, then yes, it should work. smile.gif
