ok, so far my fish have gotten flake food ( nicely soaked) and some freeze dried shrimp squares. i wanted to start trying some real foods for them too. so i gave them peas last night. jsut three. i had steamed some for the baby last night a put a few aside for them. they didn't touch them? is it just that htye don't like them? or cuz they aren't used to real food? is there something that all goldies like no matter what that i could try? i was so excited to start getting into real food for them and i was a little dissapointed that they were uniterested. sad.gif any suggestions?

thanks!

Sometimes it can take a little bit for them to catch on they are food.
You can try fasting them for a day or 2 and then do the peas. Not only will they be really hungry it will help to "cleanse" everything out of them.
Often when a fish gets just flakes it will take alittle bit, hang in there. Keep trying. But make sure if they don't eat it to remove it so it doesn't turn into waste.

did you peel them and give them a quick squish with your fingers? Mine found them unapitising as well, then i peeled them, still didnt touch them, then i squished them, and they tried it, and loved it! lol now i just peel and plop into the tank

aahh! no i didn't take them out. i thought if i left them they might eat them eventually. i'll go take them out right away!

and omg DUH! i never thought to peel them! that's a good idea! i'll try that the next time.
thanks!!!

Maybe the peas are too big, and lol you did'nt peel them spit.gif

Also make sure they are soft enough. If they are even a little hard the fish can't always eat them.

When my fish were smaller, I would cut the peas into smaller pieces. When you take the skin off, there are 2 halves--if you need to make them smaller, just cut a half into a few pieces and drop in one at a time.

Like Laurie said, it can sometimes take a while for goldies to catch on to a new food.

Just try and try giving them peas. My goldfish didn't eat peas the first time i gave it to them. But i kept on trying and they eventually learned to eat them. smile.gif

I soaked 2 peas in hot water for awhile the other day to get them nice and soft. I took off the skin and dropped the halves into the tank and they were gone before they sank halfway LoL. That was the first time I'd given my fish peas. My babies try and eat anything that's put into that tank. blink.gif

My goldfish simply don't like them. That is definately a possibility. I cooked peeled and mushed several times and they simply weren't having it. It's ok though, I don't like peas either, just becuz they're fish don't mean they have to like everything. exactly.gif
