hmm, i just wanted to ask. are flakes good for goldfishes?
Fishyfan
All goldfish food should be soaked in a little tank water for a minute or two prior to feeding to aid digestion and to help stop the absorbtion of excess air which can cause swimbladder problems. Flakes are particularly responsible for this because the fish gulp in air whilst eating them, so soaking eliminates this risk.
Flakes alone though are not sufficent to give a goldfish a balanced and healthy diet. Sinking high protein pellets are a better alternative, but variety is the key. If you could get some pellets too and feed those and the flakes in combination your fish would be getting a bit more variety. Also live or frozen blood worms and brineshrimp are extremely nutritious and should be fed at least once a week. Freeze dried versions are available if you cant get hold of live or frozen. Peas (frozen and covered in boiling water for a minute or two then drained, shelled and chopped) should be fed twice a week to help stop fancy goldfish developing swimbladder problems to which they are particularly prone, and any other fruit or vegetables as treats are a welcome addition to any goldies diet.
