can a common and a fantail live in "pH=8"??...

i read somewhere that max pH for commons is 7,5....

Yep, 8.0 is fine. Goldfish can live in a pH of up to 8.5 in fact (any breed). smile.gif

pH of 8 is actually a good number. It give you some breathing space in case the pH starts to swing. The nitrogen cycle works better at that pH level as well. smile.gif

P.S. a word of caution. Ammonia is more toxic at higher pH but if your ammonia is zero then it is not a concern.

Hi Emma,

Yes, it does. smile.gif It maximum efficiency occurs between 7.2 and 8.3. In fact, the efficiency is only 50% of the max at pH of 7. Drops to 30% at pH of 6.5 and 10% at pH of 6. Of course, there are other factors like temp, O2 level and KH to consider.
