That's normal, don't worry. Especially in the colder months they will bury themselves- this stems from how they bury themselves in the wild. From applesnail.net:
QUOTE
They also have the habit of burying in the substrate in search for food and when they aestivate in the winter periods. If the soil on the bottom is thick and soft the snails can be hard to locate.
Mine love to bury themselves; I've got a whole bunch of little snail-sized depressions in my gravel.

My Brig digs him self in the sand all the time, and my trumpet snails
always seem to come and go since there always digging them selfs
up and hiding in the sand.

My briggs bury themselves, and I thought they were looking for food when I first noticed them doing that, but I think they just like to nest in the gravel

I've heard that usually the more wild type strains do this; don't worry it's completely normal!

Thank you becuase i thought that you guys were going to tell me that my snail was dying. When i tried the peeled seedless grape cut in half, my snail ate a whole half. How many snails can you have in a 10 gallon tank?

Nope, your snail is just fine!
The rule of thumb is 2.5 gallons of water per snail. Of course, that depends on size, water quality, amount of filtration, etc. I'd estimate that what people really have is about 1 per gallon.

Thanks!!! IF there is anyone that lives in Missouri and close to Ballwin, if you go to petco they are having a snail breeding problem becuase the baby snails are a sexual and they keep breeding and the yare trying to kill them and so if you go in and ask them you can ask How much are the baby snails? and they will most likely say take as many as you want ebcuase i asked about 3 different people and know have 9 baby snails and an apple snail in my 10 galloin tank so somebody has to stop me from buying snails. I think the newest babies are the black something becuase their shells are like a spiral and are turned a different way on their body if you know what i mean and the petco people will tell you that you will end up with tons becuase they will breed and i have not had a problem at all becuase they are all in different areas in the tank.
