my rocks in my tank are tunirng green.... my dad says its good but i dun think so and we havent washed teh rocks for 4 month....... HOW OFTEN SHOULD WE EXCATLY WASHT THEM?

Well, the green stuff is just algae, which absolutely harmless and in fact is a tasty snack for your fish. smile.gif But it can look urk, I agree. I personally wash the rocks in my tank off when they start looking gunky. It doesn't matter how often you do it: whenever you think they need a clean! biggrin.gif

Yeap, it is just algea. Gf like to munch them all the time. If you really wish to remove it, dip in 5% bleach solution for 15 minutes and all will be removed. Light brushing will make your ornament sparkle. Remember to use some anti chlorine to rinse the rocks before placing it back in to the tank. I wash mine every week in bleach to make them look new.
Cheers...........

huh.gif Isn't bleach deadly for the fish? Or does the anti chlorine stuff take care of that?

You have to make sure to rinse rinse rinse until you can't smell the bleach & then use the anti chlorine stuff! (BUt it does work to get rid of the stains)

Bleach actually is chlorine - just mega concentrated - so yes, dechlorinator instantly neutralises it. I have washed out my tank and all equipment in bleach before (trying to combat a wildfire infection).

You just have to make sure you use enough dechlor and check by sniffing it to make sure no bleach smell remains. smile.gif

I find the best way to clean rocks though is simply to scrub them off with a pan scrubber or a rough sponge under running water. That does the job. smile.gif

I use a small nail brush to clean mine, it comes off quite easily and i just rinse it in the old tank water, becareful you don't brush too hard and spray algae everywhere tho sad.gif!

i see.......so i need to wash my rocks sumtimes?(makign shur)

Not really - only if you're trying to sterilize a tank after an infestation of something (parasites, bacteria, whatever) or if you don't like the look of your gravel ('cause it's covered in algae).

Otherwise you just vac it regularly.
