ok, i have been watching my two snail in my sons 10 gallon every nite when i put him to bed. they have been doing this strange thing. they go to the top of the tank, curl up into a tube type shapeextend pretty far (if not almost all the way!!) out of their shell and leave this (for lack of a better word) slime puddle! it's slightly attached to the tank wall andpartly hanging out on top of the water. by the next day it was gone. i did notice that at the center of all this "slime" was a speck of something. to small to see and kind of clearish. this happened three nights in a row. then last night the smaller one started to do the same thing but at the back of the tank. so i can't tell if there were any specks. so today i was scrubbing some algea off the tank walls and noticed that these specks are still there a\nd are getting soem color to them. so i start really watching them. there is one speck at each location. they are just a tad bit larger. so i start examining the entire tank. i found more at the bottom of the tank allong the gravel line! then i saw one that was bigger than all the rest (yet still the sized of a pin head) and it was moving!! now i am pretty darn sure that at least THAT one thing was a baby snail.

what the heck?????????? i thought that brigs layed egg clutches and layed them above the water line??? do i not have brigs?

DEVS- i saw another post and in it you write this Another Apple Snail Species. "Asolene Spixi's"This is a beautiful snail.Their colors will get bolder as they get older. They stay smaller than Brigs-lay their eggs under water, and will eat a plant at times.

is it possible that i have these? mine do eat the plants sometimes. which i thought was strange if they are supposed to be brigs. do they come in other colors? mine are kind of a cream color but with a ton of algea look striped.

i'm so confused! and now am i supposed to do anything? they are living in the tropical tank. i've counted at least 8.

wait does this mean they are a live birth? or are these little specks individual eggs??

ok, any thoughts on this one??????

i'm wondering if this is how i had babies from Lazerus ( the one that died in the sunday school tank), cuz there was never a clutch and there are like 6 babies in that tank.

Ok... that is weird. The slime puddle thing sounds like a Marisa, but the whole single egg thing is odd too.

The Lazerus thing sounds like a live birth, but it is possible that you missed a clutch- however, 6 babies from an entire clutch is weird.

I'm confused too.

Brigs definately do lay their eggs above the water line.As for Asolene Spixi's,they lay their eggs under water, but they're in such a grouping, that you wouldn't miss seeing them I'm sure. Have you bought any plants/fish lately? I have Ram'sHorns & Trumpet snails because of eggs being on plants that I didn't see when I purchased them.If you're not looking for that stuff-you'd never notice it. Brigs will eat plants, but usually only dying/rotting plants-Unless they're not getting enough veggies/food in their diet.I feed my Brigs lots of veggies as to keep them away from my plants. rolleyes.gif With your snails being cream colored,I'm guessing that they are Brigs- What color do the babies look?As for your snails leaving the slime at the top of the tank, mine climb on each other like that,so IO thjink it's kind of norm. unsure.gif
