Hey, I have had a male betta for about a mouth now and I was hoping you all could help me in chooseing the best female. I couldn't get a sister because the LFS only had males that day, I just have a few questions, I was seaching the site and found some good tips, but now I just have a few questions of my own. How do you pick the best match and around how many hiding plants to do you need for the breeding tank? Sorry if these questions have been asked already. unsure.gif

What I would be looking for in a female is one that is slightly smaller than the male, especially if its the males first time mating. A too big female will intimidate him, and its that much harder to bring them together then. Otherwise, pick a girl that isn't too agressive towards other females (yes, the girls can get a bit nippy too smile.gif ), one with no visible signs of injuries or parasites, and you should be good to go...smile.gif

Thank You! I can't even find a female at my lfs, I am going to have to order one if they don't get any soon!

When you go to the fish stores, be sure to look in the tanks, too, and not just the cups, because a lot of times the stores keep the females communally in tanks biggrin.gif

Good luck.
