My hubby and I bought 5 acres of land in a place called Snake Valley. The block of land is mainly bush. There are two natural ponds on the land. Hubby went yabbying and I thought I would share a couple of pics:

I didnt eat them. I tried to get him to put them back but he wouldnt. He loves eating yabbies.
I felt sad for them
I told him he isnt allowed to do that again. It makes me too sad

There probably a different breed of crayfish. I didnt know there were yabbies in England. Do you eat them there? Yabbies are very popular to eat here in Australia

This is a pics of my hubby Michael with the yabby net.

They come from the same family as lobsters. You can get both freshwater and salt water crayfish. The ones Michael caught are freshwater

Wow... I've never heard of those. "Yabbying", what a fun word.
How sad! Don't let him eat them again... yuck. I don't eat seafood at all. Or pond-food, whatever that counts as I suppose. Anything that's lived in the water.. there we go.

I only like deep sea fish like barra, but I don't eat fish very often. Once I went on a date to a fancy italian/seafood restaurant and ordered BBQ crab. It arrived in it's own ceramic pot drowned in some sauce (or something) and all I could see were it's claws and it's little eyes looking out of the pot at me.
I couldn't eat it, I asked the waiter to take it away. They were very courteous and hospitable asking if I would like something else. It was too late for any food, I felt sick in the stomach.
Needless to say I was not much fun and a lovely romantic evening went down the drain, I felt most embarrassed and not surprisingly I never heard from that bloke again.

Well I have to admit, I got my yabbies by yabbying too. Or my son did. We were playing Survivor island and he found bits of old nylon and a bamboo grove on the edge of the lake, and made a sinker from a stone... I gave him a slice of chicken and the next thing we knew he was flicking yabbies out of the lake and we were chasing them across the grass trying to pick them up without being bitten. We caught 11. 4 were too small so we put them back. 5 we decided were the meanest things alive... and after repeatedly getting bitten, we ate them... and two are now pets. They adapted very quickly to tank life.
One is a pretty blue green and the other a khaki colour... about 10 and 12cms long.
Apparently, they only grow to 16cm and they will eat goldfish... even big fat bossy 10cm ones. We should've kept the little ones as pets and eaten more of the big ones... that way the little yabby hunter would've pleased more campers and secured his place on the island. No wait... game's over, no one's voting...
