2 months ago my Fantail had some swimming problems, (difficulty to go down) and so on, i fed him some peas, and the problem corrected in just a a few days, but now my fantail seems to prsent SWBD even when eating peas, so i didnt feed him for 3 days...6 days after that he presented SWBD again. i noticed that he has some whithish covering in his poop sometimes, also he tends to make thin (very thin sometimes) and transparent poop, i dont know what to think about it SWBD?, Constipation? or Bacterial infection? ?? What do you recommend me to do to make his digestion better?

white poop is *usually a sign of a bacterial infection, however, you should post this in the diagnosis forum, as you will get more help in there. Also, in that forum is a box with questions at the top of the page asking for your water levels, nitrates, ammonia, ph, etc...which you will be asked to answer to the best of your ability.

That is not necessarily a sign of a bacterial infection, IMO. It could be from other things. My ryukin has had that before. As far as swimming problems, some fish are unfortunately genetically prone to it. Depending on how round their body is, they may develop it later in life. My ryukin has always had balance problems; lately it has escalated into full on flipover. (See my post about the fish harness). My oranda has grown and is also now having balancing issues.

What I have found is that some fish will get it no matter what, and theres really nothing we can do about it. As long as they have a good quality of life, let them continue to live. smile.gif

I just fed him a pea and guess what....he's floating and having difficulty to go down again...this is an instant effect after eating most of the times. Poor Fantail

sorry to hear about your fishy, I understand as many here can, how frustrating it can be when dealing with sbd. Peewee has had it most of his 2 year life he floated for a year and a half, now he's upside down and sinking, THere are many things to help, the gel food helped my fish Flick, he hasnt floated since I've been feeding it to him , Some times peewee had clear poop, I thought it was from him floating and not getting enough food, so I made him a :play pen" so I can be sure he gets enough food. Also I think I've heard that, correct me if I'm wrong, That eggbound fish float sometimes and the stuff coming out the back end is eggs. I dont know if I've been helpful or not, but good luck and I hope he gets back to normal soon. smile.gif

I am going to move this to Disease Discussion - you may get some other insights there.......

One thought, though. What is your nitrate level? Many fish are greatly bothered by nitrate - some even get floaty and flip with as little as 20ppm.

Thin whitish poo reminds me of diarrhea, not constipation. If so, try a two day fast and then start on carnivore foods such as flakes or shrimp pellets. Diarrhea is treated with herbivore diet (peas, other veggies). I could be wrong, just a suggestion. I'm much better with fish if I can see them.
