Hi,, I was in Petcetera yesterday and saw a sad little (1.25 inches) celestial with one eye that had been ripped out completely.. obviously recently, and the other eye damaged and unmoving.. I asked them about it and the manager said it probably happened during shipping like it was no big deal for the poor little guy to lose his eyes. I bought him and have him in his own 10 gallon. So,, he must be totally blind... no response to light or anything and bumps into things a bit... He does not see the food at all. He does smell the food though because he gets excited and then starts to graze on the bottom for it.. He spits everything out though.. Blood worms, brine shrimp and flakes all rejected. What can I do for this poor little guy? Can they have a happy normal little life blind? Is there something I can do to help him eat or tempt him to swallow? I am happy to give him the extra attention I just want to know what is best. PH 8.0, 0 nitrates or ammonia, 10 gallon tank,, running 2 years, UGF, Basic decholrinator, Melafix to help treat anything that might infect his wound and ripped finnage, 4 blue pomacea bridgessi snails, silk plant suctioned on as background. Any ideas and info would be great.. I have other 3 goldfish in a 55 gallon but none with any health issues, so I have not faced this before. Thank You, ang

Have you tried adding salt to a 0.3% and what do you mean he spits out the food? Is the food 2 big for it to chew/swallow and spits out part of the food not all of the food?

HI,,, I haven't added any salt yet.. I wanted some advice on that before I did it.. No, he just spits it all out,,, in and right back out like it is a rock or something other than food.. I have made the pieces very tiny for him so it doens't seem to be size.. it is just so sad

That was nice to bring home that little guy. What I would suggest is a bare bottom tank.......get a HOB power filter and not use the UGF. This will be easier for him to find food on the bottom.
With the tank been up for two years you should have nitrates, but you don't so you need to cycle that tank.
I assume you are familar with cycling????
YOu can use filter media and other stuff from the other tank.
I would also remove all decorations from the tank so he don't bump into things.
I am going to move the thread into the diag/disc section.
Also I think the salt may help to ease some stress.
