Did you boil them Coyote? I usually boil lettuce and spinach leaves to soften them. Lettuce are good if you want to give your goldies variety but they are kind of a filler food in my opinion as they are very low in nutritional value.

No particular method. Whatever your goldies like. I wouldn't be too concerned if your goldies don't like lettuce. Not the most nutritious food anyway. You never know what they will like and not like. Also how it is cooked(raw, boiled, etc) makes a difference to some goldies. Some goldies will not eat hard veggies like lettuce raw but will gobble it up when softened. Hey there like your kids. Some parents can get their kids to eat spinach and some can't. My goldies don't like Freeze dried Tubifex worms believe it or not! You never know! The one food that I never met a goldfish that didn't love it, is live brine shrimp. My goldies look like sharks in a feeding frenzy when I give them that. biggrin.gif

Coyote, I think we have spoiled our goldies rotten to the point where they actually have strong likes and dislikes. smile.gif If they were starving, I'm sure they would eat just about anything not anchored down! biggrin.gif
Case in point. When I first gave them freeze dried tubifex worms, they actually spit it out like it was poop!! headscratch.gif I then gave them freeze dried brine shrimp in lieu and they sucked it up like like a vacuum cleaner. biggrin.gif
A few hours later, they were eating the tubifex worms! What spoiled rotten goldies! biggrin.gif
Most people know this happens with dry pets like cats and dogs. My mother's cat was so spoiled from being fed sashimi and raw filet mignons(I'm not kidding) that he would not even give dried cat food the time of day.
Our wet pets are no different. They are very smart!

I guess you're right smile.gif I never knew that I could feed them fruits and veggies so their main diet was blood worms, brine shrimp, pellets and flakes blink.gif I started feeding peas about a month ago I think.Peas I didn't have trouble feeding because they like it.I have to try different type of veggies smile.gif Thanks Jack of Hearts

My goldfish weren't too fond of lettuce...

My mother put a whole small lettuce leaf in (3'x1' ish) for fun, just to see what happened.

They managed to get one or two bites off it, but didn't get very excited.

The funniest part was when I went to take the leaf out again, and Ketchup grabbed onto it! Fishy tug of war!
