Hey Guys,
I have six orandas in a 55 gallon tank. One of my orandas has been staying at the top of the tank, in the corner for that past week. Hes not floating, but stays about 1/4 inch from the water's surface. I have not seen him eat anything lately. Ammonia is 0 but nitrates are at about ten. I do a 25% water change every week but since the nitrates have gone up I have been doing them every day. I think the problem with the nitrates is that I have a bio-wheel filter with two bio wheels and about a week and a half ago I tolk one of the wheels off and replaced it with a new one. The fish does not have any symptoms showing on its body, except that I seen some red lines on the anal fins, they are not veins, just red lines on the surface of the inner fins. The last two days the fish has been on its side floating. The fish is not gasping for air and none of the other fish are having problems, this one's got me perplexed.

Thanks
Bigjk

Hi, I am soooooo not an expert but what kind of food do you feed your fish? I think it would be useful to others, who know more about fish, to maybe find out what the problem could be.

Good luck

The food is just hakari oranda pellets. I did add salt two days too, about 4 tablespoons.

NitrAtes can be up to 20 and be safe. NitrItes should be at 0 with
a cycled tank. The floating on side and acting lethargic sound like
a little constipation. Try fasting for a couple days (all of them) and
then do the pea method for a couple days.

What else are you feeding? Fruits and veggies a couple times a
week help with digestion.

Thanks PM94 I'll try that.

I got home from work tuesday night and the fish was dead. Still can't figure out what it was that killed it.

I am sorry to hear that. I tend to agree with PM94 sounds like constipation. Could've also be a SBD problem.
ONce again I am sorry.

Sorry to hear that. sad.gif I think that was my problem over the
last couple months. I've cut down the amount everyone gets
to eat and bumped up the fruits and veggies. Another thing
to try, is fast on Sat and feed lots of peas on Sun. It probably
wouldn't hurt to soak the pellets a little before feeding.

I soak my pellets too, can constipation kill? I'll start fasting again.

Thanks
