to every cloud, a silver lining. i tried breeding the bettas last night (different couple) and lo and behold, for the first time, i woke up this morning and they were embrasing for all of 2 mins. i must have caught the last of it. the thing is, i dont see any eggs anywhere and thor seems to think there is. hes guarding the nest with his life! whos the confused one here?

Amy, at this early stage the eggs are REALLY tough to see, especially if the bubble nest is big. I couldn't see the eggs for at least a day or so, because they are such an opaque color. Did you look really close?
If there really aren't any eggs, maybe the female ate most of them?

i cant see the bubble nest all that well because of the angle i have to look at it (he put it next to the thermometer so i cant see a thing!). also, it is quite a large nest so maybe theyre just lost in there somewhere. he still hasnt moved from the nest so he genuinely seems to think theres something there. ill see how it goes over the next few days. cant wait to see what the babies will turn out like. lil oddballs! lol.

Congrats on the spawn! Those betta's are pretty smart Blink,I betcha you missed the whole thing,and that there are a bunch of eggs! I got to watch Levi in all that.The only time that he stayed at the nest like that was when he put the eggs up there. If he was only adding to the building of it,he'd add and then swim away. My eggs hatched by the next morning!!! That shocked me cause everything I read said alot longer,I think it was the really warm temps. Good luck Hun....boy does that bring back bittersweet memories....

Here's the one baby that looks like Levi the most.The only other one like him was Snapita.All the others are completely different. I ended up calling him Little Levi....Not very original,but it worked for me. Click to view attachment

awwww, thats lovely. thanks for the pic he seems to be waiting by the nest, fanning it and everything like hes supposed to but the nest seems to be diminishing. ill just have a look in case theyve hatched already. that would be good!!

When they hatch,they'll be all up at the top....standing straight up in place like this l until they free swim.Levi's nest did the same thing.....Also,if you see him somewhere,and he's constanly going back to the nest,he'll probably be grabbing babies & putting them back.

he does do that, devs, but ive had a really thorough look and i see nothing maybe hes just a wishful thinker?

i jarred up duchess after theyd finished breeding and lo and behold! what did i find in there but an eggy poop. <_< stupid girl..... trying again with another female soon so maybe babies! theres hope yet!

nope, nada. but im turning the glory hole into a betta room! woohoo! so more room for more bettas so more chances of babies! im trying duchess and thor together again this weekend. ill see what happens
