little_black_fish
hi all... i thought we had a forumn for plants but my tired eyes arent seeing it so i am posting this here - plz move mods if its wrong smile.gif

I know nothing about keeping plants in my tank but would like to learn and perhaps give it a try...
basically, my questions are:
what type of plant is easiest to care for?
do you have to feed them ? ( you know what i mean lol)
i have a snail - this a problem?? i hear it is....
can you put them in anything (if you have a bare bottom tank, can you keep them in a little planter or something?)
AND if they're in a planter.. is it safe to have one in your tank? doesn't it affect water params??

thanks guys heartpump.gif

EDIT:just found the plant sections.. D'OH!

I think you should get plants that grow well in low light, Such as lace/normal java fern, Anbuius, Anubuis nana, Java moss, Onion plant might work aswell.
Well you could fertilize the gravel, but i don't, so they should
do alright in the tank like that.It depends what type of snail, canas would eat
all your plants. Java moss, Anubius, Java fern. could all be attached
to rocks or wood, I use a terra cotta plant pot, and i have some
java moss on it, and it looks very nice.

Anyways good luck smile.gif

You should probably go with low light plants first. Anubias Barteri are nearly industructable so you should probably go with that.

I feed them live racoons. J/k, actually you need larger water changes to replace trace nutrients. Those plant fertilizers would help but you have to be careful of you'll get lots of algea.

Depends what kind of snails you got. I'm not a snail person though so I can't answer that.

Planter, I think the best way to deal with that is to tye some Java Fern or Java Moss to driftwood, but if you don't have drift wood, a planter will have to do. Bear in mind that plants do worse in restricted pots. Substrate, Flourite is a good comercial substrate.

I have a clay pot in a tank and all seems well. Some glazed ones leech toxic chemicals into the tank though. Probably the safest way is just a glass jar.
