as for the female bettas, dont put two together they will fight, i had two together and had to seperate them. i heard that having a group of three or more is supposed to work better to keep the aggression down as one female will take over the tank. i tried 3 and one was killed so i think just having one is really only fair.
two angels are good and will eat the baby guppies as well. so will the rest of the fish come to think.
other cichlids i dont know, it would depend on size of tank. did you say 40 gallons? cant remember.
everything else sounds good. what you need to be aiming for in a community are fish that swim on each level, so maybe a few corys for the bottom would be nice.

Amy, I think you'll need a rather large tank 50 gallons and more to stock all them... Angels should have at least 10 gallons each i think., and if im not mistaken will eat the guppies/mollies fry.

It depends what type of cichlid you want... some are really agressive, some are less agressive than others. Kribs are okay... but then again im not sure if they will do okay with the Angels..

Angels are cichlids. wink.gif

I have had good success keeping groups of female bettas together and I currently have one tank with 7 and one tank with 4. I think the key is to buy them from the same tank in the first place, not ones that have been jarred. If they are living communally in the tank in the store, then they should do well in your home tank. I would recommend getting a group of five or more biggrin.gif (I know I have four in one tank, but the store only had four living together in the same tank and they all looked good with no fin damage, so I figured they had already sorted out their pecking order and they get along fine in my tank, too biggrin.gif

I have read that keyhole cichlids are quite non-aggressive and suitable for community tanks, but I have never had them myself. I think I might like to try a pair, though biggrin.gif
