That is so cool, Alex! Congratulations! I fell in love with bettas too a while back, and after my first batch of eggs didnt make it, I got another one today, as well as about 12 2 mm small betta fry from my stepson! Happy betta shopping!

yeah baby yeah! tomorrow's the day (HOPEFULLY!) i get my betta! the lfs actually are holding a pair for me (one male, one female) - does anyone know whether having male and female together inone tank is going to create major probs? they semed to be fine in the lfs (i watched them for 15 minutes or so) - he was flaring all over the place to get her attention but i don't want to cause hassles...

I know people who have kept male and female in as small as a 5 or 10 gallon with no problems... but I know a lot of other people whose males have killed their females. I guess sometimes they get along for weeks or months, then one day the male goes crazy or something. Not to scare you... I hope yours get along fine!
I've heard people recommend that you keep about 3 females per male, to spread out his attention. But I've heard of one case where the females all got together and injured the male. One good thing is to have lots of plants and decorations so she can hide from him if he gets too aggresive.
If he does start hurting her, you could buy or make a divider for the tank.
Congratulations!

no dont put them together i no some ppl have had a good run at the to together but over all its a NO!!! espeshialy if its your frist betta pair. bettas icuding females live better with no other fish or non flashy ones. females can be cept together BUT in a MIN of 3 and a well spaced tank with TUNS of hiding spots.
