Full Version: I Have Fry....

I noticed my goldfish being chased around by two others, and through this site learned that they were in the spawning process. Sure enough, about a few weeks later I spotted some eggs.

I removed them, and placed them into a 12 quart rubbermaid, filled only about half way (so it's about 5 inches deep) with an airstone. They hatched on Tuesday! There's about 25 of them at last count. newfish.gif

I got liquid fry food and First Bites for them, but I'm not sure if they're ready to be fed yet. They swim sometimes, but mostly are hanging onto the sides or the fake plant in the tank.

I also have a 10 gallon tank waiting to move them into, but I'm not how to go about moving them!

Here are some questions I have:
Are there any supplies I should get? I know I need a sponge filter today, but I looked today and couldn't find any. I'm going to a few more stores tomorrow.
Does the 10 gallon tank still have to be only 6 inches deep in water? Or are the old enough to be in a full tank now?
Is it too soon for food?
Should I be adding Water Clairifier, Amquel, etc or anything else to their water?
Do I need a heater?

Any help or suggestions will be greatly appreciated!!

Congratulations with your frys lol.GIF I may not be much help but I'll try.
Frys being so small will have trouble reaching the surface when feeding something that floats so I think it's better to leave it that way for the moment. You begin feeding them when you see them free swimming and looking for food.I fed mine with frozen brine shrimp which is said to be good for promoting growth.I used a heater which is set to 22*C because I've read that frys have a higher survival rate with this temperature. Not 100% sure if it's true though. The time I got frys,I used tank water at first and never changed the water for a month. But every after feeding,I siphoned uneaten food and added the same amount of water(temp match and dechlored)after siphoning.By the way,I didn't use a filter until after one month. The filter must not be something that will create much water current because I've read that too much current will cause broken backs or something. This is based on my experience.Hope it helps biggrin.gif

Hi there! How are your frys doing?? biggrin.gif
BoMarcus
They're doing great so far! There's about 30-33 of them, I count more/less each time lol.GIF I haven't lost any yet, so that's good news.

I have a bowl filter in with them now, and it seems to be working fine.
They've been eatting the frozen baby brine shrimp, and I've been doing water changes every day.

Thanks for your help smile.gif

They were born 3 weeks ago today. I've been lucky with no casualities yet! They're about 1 cm now.

Lucky you biggrin.gif The first time I raised fry, they only survived for a week sad.gif

I'm scared that they're going to start dying off on me!!! But they're all still alive.

They'll be 4 weeks next week, and all of them seem to be doing okay. Some are bigger than the others, but not by too much.

I'm worried about fungus that I have read has taken frys, because I can't find any anti-fungus treatment for them sad.gif

Oh I know how you feel.My frys are now 14 weeks old and I still get scared that they'd die sad.gif I'm just happy seeing them the next day active and waiting to be fed lol.GIF
none of my frys got fungus so I guess I was lucky smile.gif I believe Methylene Blue is a good anti fungus so maybe you could check it out next time.It could come in handy just in case biggrin.gif
