Ok, i have had this particular comet for over .. 10 months.. it was little when i got it and is now about 3" he has always been perky and happy..

well for some reason today .. he is sick.. i think he is flashing (good thing there isnt any small impressionable goldies around)

he almost looks to be losing scales but he isnt in with anythign else.. so i think his rubbing is makign them come off?

he is rubbign on things and swimming spastically about...

every so often he stops and kinda flotas.. tilted to the side..

i did a water change yesterday.. and the ammonia is 0 temp is about 68 andconstant..

i dotn know why he is ill!!

he has been livign in a 10g by himself... i will be giving him to a LFS with a pond in the summer... he eats.. the tank has been stable and runnign for over 13 months...

it was veryy sudden and i dont knwo what is wrong

i put 1/2 tsp. pre gallon (he is now in a 5g QT tank) and a 5g dosage of melafix.. i dont know why he is doign this!

I will need to you answer all of the questions above. OK? I know you said ammonia is 0 but what about nitrites and nitrates?

He is in a 10 gal tank with no other fish correct? Why are you quaretineing him in a 5 gal? Since there is no other fish in the 10 gal I would treat him there.

i dont have kits for nitrites or ates..

he is in teh 5g because i am takign down that particular 10g when i get my 55 in a couple weeks, and and usign all teh gravel, gunk and filter to help jump start my cycle of my 55g, and i dotn want the salt or melafix in the 10g ..

my towns PH is about 8 and the tanks ph is about 8... i use Wardleys water conditioner, i do 30-50% water change once every 7-10 days but mostly once a week ..

he eats wardley goldfish crumbles,,, and occasionally floating goldfish food..

the 5g QT tankhas been up and runnign for about 20 months... i dont see any ich on him, his fins are damaged a bit, but i figured it was from spazzing out..

there have been no new fish in that tank.. i have new fish in my other tanks though... and theya re doign fine..

ok he is more tore up than i thought....

it almost looks liek he got stuck ot the filter intake valve, but i didnt know bout it..

his front right side fine si like comign apart at teh joint.. like i can almost see the muscle in it...

after adding the salt and melafix he has calmed down and isnt quite so spastic, but is still rubbgn on stuff and spastic.. just not as bad as he was...

Milky you need to test for the nitrites and nitrates they could be causing a problem. If you don't have tests for those the lfs can do it and then post the numbers they give you.

I understand about the 10 gal now, hopfully he will do ok in the 5 gal.
You need to look up about Flukes often they can make a fish "flash" about. Also high ammonia and nitrites can too.
I would say keep doing water changes and see how it goes.

Could be flukes, I guess it could also be Ich. Two of my comets had Ich late last year and they tend to swim around quite frantically trying to turn themselves to rub themselves against the gravel.

Have a look at the skin. Does the fish have a lot of small white dots on its body?

What are the parameters.

First thing to do is get those and do some water changes.

if it is parasitic then the big tank will need to be treated too as the parasite will still be in the 10 gallon.
