Hey all-
I'm going to PetSmart tonight- so I'm limited to the products they carry. I need advice on how to protect the bio bugs from dying- can i just replace the filter- it's about due anyway. Is there another product I should throw in for speedy healing? How one fish get them and not the other? Love you,
Thnaks

I am assuming you have a definative diagnosis of flukes? I am sorry.
The very best thing you can do for flukes is to order Prazi Pond from the internet. I shall get you the site in a moment. Prazi is really one of the best treatments for flukes.
Until you get the Prazi, I suggest that you get a box of Aquarium salt. You should make up a salt bath for your fish - this bath will blast the adult flukes off your fish by stripping the slime coat off the fish along with all the nasty flukes.
Salt bath: 1/4 level cup of aquarium salt to 1/2 gallon of water (1/2 cup salt to 1 gallon of water). Mix the salt up so it is totally dissolved. You need the water to be about the same temperature as the tank.
Gently lift your fish into the bath. Start a timer. You want to dip the fish up to 5 minutes and no longer. Any longer and you could kill your fish. As you put the fish in the salt bath, and as it comes to the top, poke it gently. It should dive and swim. If it does not dive or doesn't dive quickly, take the fish out and put them into fresh water. If the fish is active for 5 minutes, take the fish out at the end of that time.
By tomorrow, your fish should be plenty perky again- he will feel sooooo good having those nasty parasites OFF. You need to kill all the juveniles and such, though to truly clear the tank of flukes.
Ideally, you would then place the fish back into a cleaned or treated tank. Without Prazi, you can put the fish into a new, cycled or quarantine tub and simply run the "infected" tank with pure ammonia for 2 weeks - it will starve the flukes out.
I change the water and treat the tank with Prazi. Every 3-4 days, I am going to salt dip my fish and change the tank's water and treat with Prazi, for at least 4 times, for you need to kill the larvae and eggs as they hatch out.

By the way, Prazi is safe for the good bio-bugs. Toothless has a good flukes post in the Treatments section. Do check it out
