I have Emperor 280 with a media cartridge, I'm just wondering whether it is better to put ceramic rings or bioballs in it? Which brand is good? Thanks!

I use the rings in my emps. Here's a link for one brand
I've tried. smile.gif

Can you get ceramic rings in small sizes. I have a whisper:

...which is in my bare bottom, and wanted to add something extra to boost my bio filteration. Just wondering if they would fit in the filter huh.gif

I've got some that are smaller than the Biomax ones. I
believe I got them at the local fish store. I don't remember
what brand they are offhand though. Here's a pic for
comparison with a penny.

I have smaller ones too - they are the "generic" ones from the lfs.

If you have any sort of stones or plants of any nature in a bare bottom tank, it is easy to fill a small bag (stocking foot or anything) full of the same ceramic cylindars and drop it behind a rock or plant so it is not seen. This becomes a wonderful platform for bacteria - but remains unseen. After I fill my filter, I use the rest of the box of generic cylindars and drop bags of them in all my tanks. This also give me a back up source of seasoned media if I am ever in need of an instant cycled source for an iso tank or anything.
