Hello all,
I recently bought some ProGold pellets for my goldfish because of all the good reviews it gets. So I fed them today for the first time and I thought it was going to sink a bit slower than what it did...the goldfish all seemed to completely miss it.
It would just hit them in the head on its way down, land on the gravel, and then immediately be eaten by my dojos.
Has anyone else dealt with this problem, or are my fish the only ones who can't seem to figure it out? Is there a way to perhaps make them sink a bit slower....other than going through making gel-food?
Thanks!!

I had this problem when I first started feeding Progold to.

I never found a way to make it sink slower (although admittedly I didn't try to hard, lol). I would say just keep dropping it in the tank until the fish see it. After a few weeks feeding my guys this stuff it hardly has a chance to get into the tank before it's snatched up by a hungry goldie. :goldfish

It does sink fast, but I think your goldies will catch on pretty quick! I drop a few pellets in, and when they are really looking for it, I try to drop in more right where they are at. They learn to chase the pellets pretty quick.

Your all probably right. I've just never spent $20+ on a bag of fish food and I got the sinking feeling (yes, pun IS intended) that I wouldn't be able to actually use it for my fish.
Thanks to all

Bio Blend is another excellent food, it doesn't sink as quickly, its a very small slow sinking pellet, my guys love it, they then search the stones for any remains..
I paid $7 for a little over a 4oz bottle..

It's funny to watch my goldies eat the stuff, because it does drop so fast -my goldies go flying around like it's a shark feeding frenzy! One of my poor Dojo's didn't move quick enough, and now he's got a bent tail!

If I worry about anyone not eating,it's those poor guys!

And by the way, even if they miss the food when it's falling down, goldies natural instincts are to scavenge & feed off the bottom anyway! Believe me....your fish won't go hungry!

Like others said, they will catch on fast. It is just that they weren't expecting it to sink so fast.
Before long, they will be gobbling it up.

Me too, but now my guys get it before it hits bottom. They search the rocks for hours after for any missed crumbs. Pro Gold is amazing stuff and my guys just love it.

Thanks for the compliment, everyone who visits our house can't believe that goldfish get that big. They are only 3 years old.

hi! I just wanted to share something to maybe try, if they don't catch on .One of my little fish has a bad problem getting to the bottom of the tank,so I made a feeder out of a fish food lid turned upside down tied to a piece of plastic to keep it down. the lid holds the food so they wont have to struggle to get it at the bottoms.

Hey Barbie, great idea. Like a little plate for the fish to eat off of. You should submit that to the tip of the month.

the fish will pick up the food from the bottom, so its ok for it to sink.

I use a small bowl at the botton of the tank. Since I soak the food in another container, I use it to dump the food into the bowl. The sides are flared so it's not excessively deep. My goldies were shy of the bowl at first. My flying fox found the food first and before long the goldies followed suit. This also helps to prevent a lot of the food from getting caught under the stone where the goldies can't get to it. Now they get really excited when they see the bowl setting down at the botton of the tank.
